Thought I'd post up my car.
For the last three years it has been a work in progress which is about finished now. When I bought her, she was a converted 1991 Liberty GX with an RS engine. It had a stock RS JDM ecu controlling the show and it was farking HORRIBLE with about 100 hp at all four. My first upgrade was to a TD05h turbo charger which raised the power to about 180 hp which in turn destroyed the gearbox so I had to upgrade to WRX gearbox. Still she drove like a pig so I banged a microtech LT10S in there (ripped out the entire old fuel and ignition loom) and finally started getting somewhere. Fuel ecomony was improved, power was smooth and with the handset I could easily adjust flatspots and sort out any cold start issues.
Unfortunately the engine was already toast so I sold my old project car (280 hp rx7) and bought an STI engine, upgraded the TD05h to a 20G and bought some PPG gears (helical syncro for sleeper value). The STI engine was built to the shithouse with forged and balanced everything. It LOVED to rev to 8500 rpm :)
She saw 275 hp @ 19 psi and 310 hp @ 24 psi. Still not enough so a few months later I banged an AVO450 in there and she made 326 hp @ 23 psi. This was still rather dissapointing with midrange and peak power so I sold the 2L bottom end and I went down to Subaru and bought a brand new 2.5L (EJ257), the same one as in the 2007 WRX STI. It was shipped off to SJ Auto and CP pistons were installed and the Version 5 heads were ported and polished by TK (thanks Tony).
After running her in she made some more dissapointing results on the dyno, only 300 hp @ 19 psi - so I'd gone a bit backwards. However this was enough for an 11.92 @ 114 mph at Heathcote. The turbo was the restriction now.
So I decided to stop farking about and get serious. I bought a Garrett GT35R with the 0.82 rear housing and over a weekend a mate and I installed a custom twist mount setup with a complete new 3" TBE. I spent hours porting and polishing everything in the intake / extractors piping that could be done safely - no rough edges anywhere. I used a 38 mm tial wastegate screamer and the screamer lasted 2 days!! I loved the sound but everyone within 2 square kms turned their heads when it opened up!!
She felt very good and we headed off to the dyno. Finally some results. 316 hp (19psi) on our first run with AFR's around 10.1... ooops. Timing was somewhat retarded as well. So Shaun from Boostworx weaved his magic with my microtech and we couldn't believe how well the torque curve responded to timing.
At the end of the day she saw 375 hp (281 kw) @ 6750 @ 19 psi and we saw full boost at 3750 rpm!
Other mods include DMS coilovers, 2100 lb brass button clutch, eboost, turboxs wideband, knocklink, STI 4 pot brakes, high temp pads and fluid.
So it's off to Calder and Heathcote this weekend for fun and games.
