Hey Guys,

Never really bothered posting my cars up here, prior so it's probably time I pull my finger out and post em up.

Car was purchased a few years back after selling the soarer as a daily driver, under the proviso that I 'wouldn't modify'...

After spending much time and money resisting the urge and trying to get the BMW lump to idle smoothly, I finally caved after the balancer fell off the motor and left me stranded one night. Replacement balancer bolt was a temporary fix to get the car home after a bunch of runing around sourcing parts.

Next phone call was for a 2jz Aristo cut. Handed in my resignation at work, and allowed myself 4-weeks over christmas to get it in and running relliably to drive to work mid Jan.

Wasn't too difficult, I'd change a couple of things if I were to do it again however. I'm not 100% happy with the engine location, I set it as far back as I could trying not to have to modify the front sump (which I did in the end anyways for peice of mind), I'd set it back another 10+mm if I was to do it again to get a little more airgap between thermo and the belt.

To get it to fit, retaining the seq twins, and toyota auto, required remote oil filter, custom dump pipe, tailshaft, engine and gearbox mounts, ECU box modifications and associated wiring, some cables, accell, cruise, new fuel pump (found this one out after finally flow testing the BMW pump at less then 1200cc/min max flow *cough*), cooler piping, radiator piping, etc etc....

I had this... 34700
and did this... 34701
and then I got this... 34702
and with the aid of these... 34703
34704
34705
34706
34707
34708
34710
34711
I managed to do this... 34709
And finally ended up with this... 34712

There have been some additions, ie 3.15 LSD from the E32 750i V12. again with slightly modified tailshaft to suit.

The car now sports a MV Autos built gearbox and a '2800' stall. I went this way after killing second in 3 std autos prior (even with a shift kit fitted).

Best time thus far is a 13.7@105 with a poor 2.2 60'

Last trip to the strip saw a best of 1.99 60's with the new converter.

Dammit, why can't people do inline pictures, or doesn't the forum allow inline attachements? Clicking links is a PITA.

Looks good!

Bit more room in that bay than the E30's I think!

Not really Jason... Maybe a little more length, width is roughly the same. E30's use rock and peanut steering, whereas the E32 uses a box.

NFI why it didn't inbed the images?

There looks to be an extra 200mm length at least. How far are the chassis rails from each other? I had to modify one of my custom mounts to avoid the steering linkages.

I found it tight with the E30 mounts also, but the E30 mounts weren't coming off the front of the crossmember as much as the E32 from memory.

I think the rails are about 700ish clear in the E32, can't really remember and I'm pretty sure the E30 was around this figure also. I'm using a 450x400 core radiator with 50mm+ end plates in the E30, however the measurement of 670mm comes to mind with the E30.

There's probably 80mm more engine bay length in the E32 over the E30

See attached for steering clearance on the E32

Nice. Is the intercooler hanging out there because of lack of room?

Wow those mounts are gonna have some leverage on the mounting bolts. Intercooler spoils it IMHO

Good ot see and aftermarket turbo BMW thats not hot pink. Yhough I agree, the IC definately spoils it

ALLMTR :- I spent some time talking to my engineer mates about this and they are more then adequate, four bolts connect them to to block, and the other end sits onto the factory BMW mount. Most of the load will be in shear against the bolts. It's by no means odeal, but with the BMW crossmember so far foward and the steering box to clear, there really was no other option.

No other option for intecooler :( I almost cried when I had to cut the practically brand new front bar to fit it...

Cooler is only 400x300x105 and it's hard against the A/C Condensor fan and hard under the sill above the bumper. No other option.

I will be *when I can be bothered* be using the sections I cut out to 'wrap' the bar around the cooler, which should partially hide it, but this is a low priority item atm :P

it is sad, its the only part of the conversion that isn't clean.

You can't fit a different style of bumper?

There is onew A/M kit that i know of, but it's north worth $2k+ to fit it to me...

I'm in on the bandwagon, nice looking conversion spoiled by an intercooler setup that would look at home on a western sydney gemini drag car.

What did you do for brakes?

BMWTurbo
15-02-08, 02:52 PM
It's my daily driver, so easy and tidy is more then enough... :P

Brakes are factory 735 brakes. Arguably the E34 brembo 4-pots would be a nice addition, but the car is only a daily driver and doesn't get flogged too much, only the occassional TnT at which the brakes 'cope'.

Yeah I realise it is difficult to do. Might wanna think about putting studs in the block next time the motor is out.

Do you have any idea on what the whole lot owes you?

Glorious work as always ben, can I have those nissan 4 pot adapters yet? :p

BMWTurbo
17-02-08, 02:31 PM
Jason :- Some E32/E34's run a factory hydraulic booster arrangement. I retained this fortunately giving just enough clearance to fit the engine.

ALLMTR :- That's a good idea, I'll look into that 'if' I ever have to remove it :)

sketch :- I still haven't got around to drawing the adaptor plate up yet. My adaptors require a special Chromoly sleeve and locking nut, to offset out further for the M-series rotors also.

Dropped in a set of Bilsteins Sprint over the weekend... Slightly better then the leventy billion year old worn out stock shocks :P

I have also decided that 'replacement' strut tops are pathetic. Seem attached image for proof. The cupped washer should sit in the centre of the strut top, not 10mm inwards. This has happend to both sides, and when you compress the front of the vehicle all the movement it taken up in the strut top rubber, rather then moving the shock. WTF...

I'll be looking to modifying my std tops be replacing the rubber with poly, to get rid of these things.

Still chugging around, often goes un-noticed which is fine with me :)

New driveway has thrown any effort that was going to be put towards making it less conspicuous out the window.

Should maybe update a bit since then...

Have fitted this recently :-
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1577/coolerenginebay.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coolerenginebay.jpg)

Because wasn't happy with trans temps and water temp would rise after a blat, so wanted to get the trans cooler away from the radiator front.

Got some HF'd snails to go on with T3 60-trim fronts, as soon as I find a set of 650cc/min odd injectors:-

Went to WB tonight to have a last play with the std turbo's before I removve them.

Best for the night was a 13.2@108, better then previous 13.7@105.

Had problems getting effective launches all night and previousyl at the drags. Tonights 13.2 had a 2.0 60ft, with the street tyres, no wheelspin.

On my last run I changed some pipes and ran it in parallel turbo mode. Stalled on the line against brake and handbrake and launched into massive amounts of wheelspin, I fanned it as best I could until roughly 1/4 track where it gripped and off I went. 60ft was a 2.7sec :P ET 14 something and Terminal 104MPH.

I never thought I would, but will need to source some 15inch DR's for my next outing. I'm confident it would have broken high 12's could I get it off the line.

nice conversion, i have been wanting to put a 2JZGTE into a BMW for some time to make a cheap bastardised M3 wannabe.

i'd give the cooler a mist of flat black paint too, the lip under it looks a bit odd but hides it pretty well.

Yes. Even with a slight drop in MPH from traction, you're high 12ing

Mentioned this to a guy on another site, who's gone through 3 750iL in less then a year before BMW could build one properly. He said goodluck with the rest of the electrics, his first 2 cars both suffered massive electrical dramas not long after delivery.

BMWTurbo

Only the one on the car Jason. *touch wood* I haven 't had to do much with it, though I'm thinking I might overhall lines etc in the future just to be safe.

The 108 MPH was literally no Wheelspin, it only ran 104 MPH on the 2.7 60 wheelspin run.

Euroboost :- *touch wood again* I haven't had any major issues in the last 2.5 odd years I've had the car. Only the basic's like window regulators and the cluster issues have cropped up that are easy fixes.

Halfway through the Water/(meth) injection. It's occassionally pings when the second turbo is on-line in 2nd gear, so I've wanted to do this for a while now as a knock retardent and to cool the charge.

A few other bit's to replace on the vehicle then out to WB again.
