View Full Version : Wet Choke
hi guys,
im looking for a idle valve, that will work like a wet choke on a weber.
IE - open when its cold and closing up when it gets hotter.
does anyone know if this exists or where i could get one from.
(im looking for a ghetto means to life IDLE when a car is cold without using a PWM stepper motor)
thanks
tim
Subaru idle air valve has a vane in it that does that.

The 16V 4AGE's have a wax-pellet thermostat thingy that has an air valve in it. It bolts to the side of the engine and as it warms up the valve closes, and so lets less air into the inlet.
That might do the job for you.
What about the 80's Nissan ones Tim eg the ones that were OE on FJ20's. If you come up with something simple let us know?
I suppose it may be possible to make a manual one with a cable controlled tap of some sort.

I made a 'manual' one with a cock-valve which worked ok, but i'd prefer something I could add to a few cars, and something that would take care of itself.
the VG30 has something similar already, but its overly complex.
keep the ideas coming (pics too if u have them :D)

Pretty much any car fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection uses a valve like that.
Audi VW Porsche Mercedes Ferrari etc.

One on the 260Z was still manual but electric, a solenoid valve. All that would be needed with that is auto switching.
