After just way too long, I'm looking to have the crapbox seen by an engineer for them to sign off on and there's a 1-2mm deep score on one of the existing front discs - plus I've been going to upgrade the all the time anyway.

So a new front pair should set things right... just wondering if anyone has experience with the difference in standard DBA slotted or DBA 4000 slotted? The car will only do around 5-10 thousand k's per year as we hardly need to use it, with visits to the track every now and then. However don't see a need to go with the risk of cracking with x-drilled unless the failure rate has been improved significantly in the past few years (nothing against DBA, affects everyone from what I understand).

Car weighs around 1100kg with standard rear discs and GTiR front brakes (254mm i think... much better than the original 220-something which had tiny pad contact surface as well).

Unless you're using it for heavy duty motorsport, just use the standard slotted rotors. Heaps cheaper and work just as well, to a point. The 4000's are heat treated or some such thing to make them less prone to thermal fatigue.

I think they also pick up their 'kangaroo paw' cooling.... but again, how much difference would it make to light/medium use? you're probably right. Thanks for the reply Steve,

I bought some 330mm 019's for my VP in a 4000 and there's definitely no Kangaroo paw pattern going on in there. Just a straight vane. But the standard VT slotted's I put on the missus car did have KP, so I can't figure it out.

I asked DBA a while ago just after they brought KP out and it was only on selected applications, but according to their website all DBA 4000's should and 'some' standards do as well (http://www.dba.com.au/2006/products.asp). Who knows! :)

Ok... turns out EBC also make slotted brakes which are dimpled rather than completely x-drilled. Has anyone used or heard of much about these? I'm guessing the dimples simple wouldn't fill up with crap else they'd look pretty shit pretty quickly & earn a bad name for themselves.

I cheaped out and bought the RDA 019 slotted rotors for the VN at half the price of the DBA ones. Work very well, and at my low level of competition they work well with the EBC reds I have in there.

Not the best package sure, but it's good value for money.

anyone heard anything about the EBC rotors? Seems everyone just talks about their pads & few know they sell rotors as well :(

EBC rotors were more expensive than DBA (not to say DBA is overpriced) when I priced them.
