View Full Version : Off to the Dyno Tomorrow
Well..... all the hard work seems to be done. The next race meeting is in 5 days, and finally the engine fired into life yesterday for the first time.
I am booked in tomorrow afternoon on the Dyno at Insight motorsports in Arndell Park......Fingers crossed for a good result!
Here is a pic of the exhaust side of the engine....a spaghetti of pipework, but I got it all in there!

And to show that it all fits.......

Do you think it's lighter?
Yes, from what we have worked out....about 45kg's lighter.

Same inlet restrictor as the last setup? Good luck with the dyno!
Yeah ..... same restrictor....... damn restrictors!
Scott is a good tuner so you are in good hands.
I am keen to know what this puts out!
Good luck
x2 for Scott being good :D
Dyno is done...at least for now.....haven't played with Cam timing yet.
Scott did an awesome job as expected......I told him I would be happy with a SAFE 240hp at the wheels......end result was 273.....Very VERY happy boy:yup:
Not bad considering I am running a 36mm restrictor on the front of the turbo!

Great stuff, so is the limiter at 6000 RPM? A 2litre will usually fall flat on it's arse there yeah?

I was thinking it was a nice wide power curve until I looked at the scales, damn restrictors!

No ....the limiter is at 6,500rpm at this stage. I will be emailing some Logged files through to Scott on Friday after each session. He can then make some changes and email back to me....thank god for Laptops with Wireless Broadband:yup:
I will be able to use up to 6,500rpm if I need to.

Imagine what it could do without the restrictor!:w:
Thats a fair wack of powah for a Sunny.... Awesome!
Time to update sig :)

well done, how much power did the old engine put out for reference?
The FJ made 269 on the same dyno, but was tuned within an inch of it's life. This engine is doing it much easier. AFR's are not as lean, less timing etc..... I told the tuner to keep it safe, I would have been happy with 240hp but he smashed that. He believes it could make about 280-285 once the engine gets a few miles on it and with some more dyno time. More imnportantly, once we start playing with the cam timing he should be able to shift the curve further down the rev range which will make it nicer to drive...... I am expecting it to be a bit of a handful on the weekend, particularly if it rains!
UPDATE**********
Went back to finish the tune last night, cam timing and a few other bits & pieces.
Final result was 309.9rwhp! and it makes the power around 400rpm earlier in the rev range. I will post the dyno sheets when I get a chance to scan them in.
Happy Camper!

Damn, is that a Toyota spec restrictor! :D
Hope the new diff is strong.
I am a little pissed we won't get to see you race here again Mark - that would have been a cracker in a straightline... :yup:
I was able to outgrunt most of the V8's down the straight at Wakefield with only 248hp at the wheels...

Seriously impressed, dude! Well done!
Thanks guys, it should be an absolute cracker to drive.
No Toyota engineering here Hoonboy....Datto Power all the way :)
Paul, I had fun playing with the V8's down the straight at Oran Park during the Nationals, it now has more power, and also has better delivery of the power.
As an added bonus, it made this power in 32 degree heat, which is great considering I am off to Perth at the end of the week.

I think he was talking about the infamous TTE restrictor from '95.
Would be very interesting without the restrictor, and more then a bit scary I reckon.

Yeah, the non-restrictive restrictor is the one I was referring to :)
All decent cars have SR20's in them anyway :D
Yeah.... I realised the hidden reference to the TTE quasi restrictor...... and there is none of that going on here :)
It was checked at the Nationals in November and nothing has been changed.
Need to update your Sig again, Mark :p
Oh, & see you soon :)
Catch up with you soon mate..... I am going to be living North East of the city - up near Ellenbrook.
solid - shame it wont be seen at the NSW IPRA meets as I'm over the rotaries and there handbag throwing owners :d
I'll do my best to represent the turbo 4 cylinder fans!!
Datman, will you be making the journey back over this way for the 2009 Nationals?

Who makes the brake discs?
Dunno, never heard of them.
Crazy..... not sure if I will make the nationals, will have to see how the finances look when the time comes. I would certainly love to though.
Jason....What are brake discs? Never use them.....ask Crazy :yup:
Dyno Sheet as promised.........

Poor Ashly in WA having to race that. Same power he is making with his SR but he has 100s of KGs more fat to carry.
The odds were against Ashly last year in the Street Car class too, but that didn't stop him taking out the championship!

True,I dont understimate what he can do,We still have some more R+D to come also.
I still have to figure out how to get it round the twisty bits :)

Wanneroo loves power,You will love the run up over the hill and down into turn 7 with that power/weight.
That's what I like to hear :)
