View Full Version : I need new retaining rods for my calipers...

The old ones are pitted and the pads don't slide properly.

They're R33 GTS-T Skyline calipers, but I'm having trouble finding new rods.

The Nissan dealer here in Newcastle can't get me anything without a chassis number and the brakes aren't on a Skyline, so I don't have one of those.

Any ideas?

Take 'em to get polished and hard chromed back to correct diameter and smoothness?

I'd imagine an importer like the toyshop won't separate them from a caliper, but they might be able to source new ones.

either that or pull a VIN number off a carsales ad and use that at nissan :p

Personally, I'd try a different nissan dealer, not all are so stuffy.

Buy some 6mm stainless rod (I think its 6mm)
Drill some holes for the clips
Done

Or get some really big split pins - have done this for WRX rally cars.

I managed to get a VIN off carsales and have now ordered the parts through Nissan.

Great idea - thanks!

yeah they like to be pricks sometimes over at klosters with these imports.

i had to fight and argue one day to get some gaskets and orings for an rb25det cylinder head.

i'm like why do you need a vin, rb25det is all the same. (well the parts i wanted anyway)

i think he figured that to argue was going to take half hour when he could use that time to just look it up and not be so dam lazy.

i have the fast software myself, it's not exactly any harder to search via vehicle model.
