I'm working out which calipers to use on the front of my sprite.
Car is ~700kg wet, with at least 120kw motor (want to allow for up to 160kw in the future).

I've got a scenario worked out using VN commodore calipers on a vented 256mm disc using Magna caliper brackets, but I don't like the adaptor I've had to design, and don't like the commodore caliper (but it is cheap, common and has the piston size I'm after.

So I'm eyeing off some rx7 4-pots, which should also suit the discs I've laid out, and will have the right piston size/area. Is this overkill? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives that are'nt AP/Brembo etc and will suit a 20-22mm thick disc?

Even if the RX7 calipers are overdoing it, they will be lighter (which is going to be very important on a lightbodied car), and they will be stiffer, giving you beter pedal feel.

Commodore calipers should only be used for what they were intended for, chocking car wheels so they don't roll out the garage door.

By your location Im thinking Mallala will be the home track, no track comes close to brake temps created with 3 big stops every lap, RX7 4 spots with hawk ht-10 === win, all the IP guys use them , I have Gazelle front rotors about 240 odd mm and jfz/willwood 4 spots and they work well on a 810kg w/driver IP car and about 160kw but when I upgrade to 14 or 15 inch wheels that will be the combo I go too with the JFZ 4 spots on the rear. My brakes are starting to have issues now after about 5 laps,

Dead right had vs calipers on the front absolute shit, night and day between 4 spots and commode calipers

Thanks for the advice guys, Mallala is indeed the local proving ground.

I'll try to pick up a reasonably priced set to see how they line up with the mounting holes on the upright.

If they work I wouldn't expect to have to upgrade further - I know of a sprite that did 1min12s at Mallala with RX7 calipers.

so what are they worth? the brakes on the honda are the oem slidey half ones so there probably as shit as commo brakes.
