Can anyone tell me if there are readily available factory front ventilated disc brake set ups that will fit under 10" wheels?
Cheers Matt

Hi Cameron
Long time no talk.
How are you?

I have recently bought a Datsun 1000 and I am starting to investigate braking options as it still has the factory drums, albeit with upgraded shoes. The car came with a set of exceptionally lightweight, custom 10" wheels with good semi slicks that I would like to utilise.

I'm in no hurry to make any changes as I am yet to race the car anyway but there's no harm in seeing what's available.

Google KAD kent auto developments, they do mini stuff so should have something. Iirc that mg metro turbo stuff (which is vented 4 pot) can be turned down to fit under a 10" wheel, but that is UK stuff so you'll be importing stuff or get reamed by an aus mini shop.

Really you'll prolly end up moving to 12-13" as there isn't an easy bolt on setup for 10" wheels that I know of.

Cheers,
Jeff

I had Metro mini 4-pot calipers and vented rotors under 10inch front wheels on my mini :)

Rotor's had to get roughly 2-3mm machined down to fit though.

Do you guys see any issues with using the rear calipers and vented rotors from a larger car and having the rotors turned down on a lathe? Obviously the pad swept area would be different but these can always be cut to size.
Any other issues I haven't thought aboout?
Thanks Matt

Rear caliper won't give you enough clamp force as the pistons are too small

Rear discs usually have large centre bells and small radial depths
So might not be roo easy there either

I've been doing disc setups for these cars for 13" wheels for 15 yrs
But thats not going to help you

Theres not alot of clearance under there

If your going to fun the car in N class racing you have to keep the drums anyway

Thanks very much for the valuable info dattoman.

If you could send me the details and pricing of your 13" brake kits when you have time I would be grateful.

Thanks again MAtt

I have recently bought a Datsun 1000

2 or 4 door? Any Pics? Great car! :yup: My Dad had one back in the '70s, and I remember shoving the hose up the exhaust, then blocking it up with Kumquats..

Boy, did I get into trouble that day...

BTW, I know that Daihatsu Applause's have vented front brakes, if thats any help? :)
