looks like it will be a good project. there should be enough corollas lying around without rust in various places, ya should be able to get all the pieces.... eventually :p
oh why tarago diff? tarago = E series which is shit
cause i already have it and from what i'm reading they are the shit .
enlighten me MRMOPARMAN what diff will fit and be builtproof ??
hold up to racing with semi/slicks ?? the tarago one is suposed to be the same as a hilux diff but in 4 stud not 6 from what i have read.

That looks like something I would buy!
I thought Tarago diffs were F series... the "good" hilux diffs were G series and some Hilux's had F series in the front???
couldnt you find a shittier one?? :p
wrecker up here has a better shell for $350ish if you want it.

I can pikc this up tomorrow if you can get it orgnaised in time. Driving up there for work anyway. Only hassle is the commodore shell is still on my trailer, so I can't use it.

Mint condition as it came from the factory then? :)
With a bit of work they can turn out to be a pretty good little car.
I hear theres one with slight roof damage in the hampton area :rotflol:
na it got scrapped. i was thinking about ringing the scrap metal place to see if they still had it.
Shame, it was pretty neat before we got our hands on it, no rust, no major dings.
Still got back seat, passenger seat and bunch of emissions crap, stock exhaust manifold and half an intake manifold ;)
build another one for hampton !!!
i'll even pay you $100 for it at the end of the day if it's still intact !!
If another one comes up I'll def grab it, best sized car for hampton I think.

I thought Tarago diffs were F series... the "good" hilux diffs were G series and some Hilux's had F series in the front???
im not too sure bout front diffs, but hilux rears have always been G series (well up to mid 90's anyways)
mk2 coronas and crowns and4x4 taragos iirc are F series live axle.
normal taragos are E series and ghey for after market gear
celicas and coronas? are T series or BBW
corollas are S, U, rarely T series or BBW.
slo78U. have a looksie on toymods, rollaclub, ae86oc etc etc. good diffs come up fairly regularly.
if your planning on getting serious with it, id be looking at getting a pumpkin style diff so you can replace ratios at the track if you desire. i know G's and F's iirc are pumpkin style, not sure if T's are.
BWs that have been shortened regularly come up for sale. then you get stud pattern of choice with little work, cheap gears, lockers, LSDs, choice or rear brakes etc etc.
G's i reckon are too heavy for this style of car. although indestrucable. theres adapters to get soarer/supra rear brakes on them too. easy to get LSDs and gears, air lockers etc for them. although its nearly impossible to get gears for them 3.5:1 and higher.
F's are getting a little hard to get, not sure of ratios available but you can get LSDs for them. lighter than G's but still quite strong. you will most likely have to get one shortened to fit (like the G series) unless one comes up already done.
T series are easy to get in the width you'd require. LSDs are expensive (kaaz etc) hard to get high gears (you probably wouldnt want them anyways)
they are quite light compared to the other options, fairly strongish, and rear discs from corona advante's fit with little/no mods.
BBW (baby borg warner) U series and iirc S series = crapness. F- will break again.
thats about all i know about em. theres ARSELOADS more info about all of the above on toymods if your willing to search through all the shit to find the info.

hilux surf and possibly 4runner has an F front diff.

their IFS though arent they? i know 4 runners are
could always go a r32 rear end.......
that way i'll have good rear brakes and a bit of adjustment..........
bit of fab work never hurt anyone !!!
so did some thinking over easter.....
i have 12 rims with rally tyres at home.
the engine in B2 should go alright on dirt.
it has adjustable tops.
i have lifted suspension from B1.
just needs the rust fixed and a cage and it should make a fun car on dirt.
and i means i can sell all my other stuff to pay for it.
is this sounding like a better idea to get back out and playing ??

Shit idea, you need s13 sr20 powers... and I need s14 sr20 powers!!!
Lifted Corona suspension would be very lifted in the Corolla and possibly too stiff. Would the tyres fit OK? Might be too tall to get decent clearance. Other then that it sort of makes sense.
i gotta get going again Jamie. all this sitting still is driving me nuts.
i still have S14 SR20 goodness for you young one. and the microtech and dash and coils.

I know what it's like to sit on the sidelines for way too long... it was enough to make me buy a Commodore!
I've sold the V8 to get cash and got the S13 sitting here for when you make a decision.

Great idea, except that you will want the SR20 goodness at some point down the track...
Don't sell anything just yet, do the suspension/cage/etc and have a few runs, see how you go.
cheers

or you could buy something someone has already done the hard work on

Gemini for sale
TG gemini with a worked 2ltr. Tuned extractors, stage 3 cam, heavy duty suspension.
Straight body.
2 x 5 point racing seats ( 1 is brand new)
1 x 5point racing harness ( brand new)
About 6 montths rego
Ph Adam 0424311695
$2500 ono
but it's a gemini Jim.
besides this will only cost me about 2k for car, cage, paint, suspension.
then if it's to slow i can throw away the 4k and drop the sr20 in it.
I suggest plates cut from old computer cases pop riveted in place and copious amounts of bog, and paint the whole thing with heated white housepaint. It WILL get damaged again, no sense in doing a resto job on a tree magnet.

You will get tired of the 4K, think of the Corona with the stock diff trying to get up the steeper hills.

That would be a schmick job for James!! :D
Did you keep any metal from B1 like you said you would? Your going to need a fair amount of metal or bog to get it right. Make sure at least the passenger side has metal!

yeah still have the corona. going to cut the roof out of it to fix rusty bits. and do a chop on the rear sections to replace the non-existing ones in the corolla.
whenever you PM me with details of swapsies Jamie. Can swing by thursday night if your going to be home with all the stuff.
and who did i have to stop in and see with the S13 setup going on in a corolla ??
Well i did a bit today on B2.
shorting the started motor out this morning to see if it runs. It does. pretty clean reving to but the carbie is a tad big. gotta be gentle with the gas.
also changed the front struts to the corona ones. i did have to change the tops over and also changed the springs to the rear corona ones in the front of the corolla. it's a bit to stiff so i'll be cuting a ring or 2 off the coils.
clearance at the moment is 150mm tyre to arch. 330mm from crossmember to ground. the shocks are topped out that is why i'll cut a ring out. try to stop it from being topped out.
going to pedders tomorrow to get some springs for the rear now. unless i do a dodgey 2 springs welded together to lift the back up. just gotta lift it up a bit.
i'll hopefully get the diff welded this weekend and make a start on all the rust.
oi
saw this and thought of you

This sounds like an awesome AMSAG car. Class U with the SR or bring another one to class B with the stock motor. You going to run the rallysprint at Hampton?
