So IPRA says I can use up to a 9in rim on my VN track car. But what's the widest I can fit under the guards, accepting I am happy to beat the shit out of any of it to get it to fit, but can't cut and weld anything (can't tub it for example).

Probably going for 16in or 17in diameter.

you'll be struggling to fit a 9inch with 265 tyre but it is possible with some artful work with a sledgehammer and the right offset. It's not so much the room inside the guards its the lower trailing arm that gets in the way hence mine is getting tubs and relocated suspension.

The Grp A cars had a 11" rim in race trim with a 12" slick - they had a little more rear inner arch though... Would a VL diff fit/be narrower?

A vl diff is narrower by 25mm each side.

diff width is ok, thats easy changed. I was more wondering about actual space in the arches....

Go to wreckers, chop inner guards from VL, fit to VN, change logbook to VN SS GrpA?

the walkinshaws had the inner rear guards, bashed up with a hammer so they could apparently fit wide rubber if needed, not sure how much difference it would make myself.

nothing holden can not do with a hammer.

(to make another point, to clear one of the turbo heatshieds, they bashed the chassis rail ridges down to clear it on factory vl turbo models, quality work!)

I've tried a 16 x 8 same as saloon cars run, with a 245 45 16 Hoosier slick and had issues with tyre scrub on the inside AND the outside. Lump hammer to the guards fixed the outside problem, changing to a 225 50 16 fixed the inside problem.

thanks Steve... looks like thats the biggest I will get in there and remain within the rules.
