View Full Version : Do I keep this master cylinder?

I've a wrecked Camira rally car (I rolled it, didn't buy it wrecked) that I'm gutting and putting the bits in a Daewoo Lanos (it was a cheap cage in a car with a log book).

Its now got Commodore (VB-VP?) front and rear calipers, and I'm trying to sort the master cylinder. The old car had the stuff below. The Daewoo master is pictured below too.

So, can I use the two top ports on the Daewoo master to go to the front calipers? For the rear, can I tee the two bottom ports together after gutting the limiting valves there? Do I keep the Camira pressure limiting valve?

Here's the master in the Camira:

Which for the front went to a T piece and to the calipers. The rear went to a balance adjuster, hydro handbrake, and then to a pressure limiting valve? See below.

The Daewoo master has the top ports to each front caliper and the rear (drums) were connected to the bottom ports you can see which have pressure limiting valves screwed into the master?

Excuse poor focus. I think my camera needs a tune up.

Anyone? Bueller? I guess the key questions are what do I do with the pressure limiting valves and will the new master cut it?

OK, the picture you asked whether it was a pressure limiting valve, if it came off of a rear drum braked car is probably a check valve. The Daewoo master probably has a check valve in the outlet that goes to the rear. These are to keep a residual pressure in the brake lines going to drums so that the shoes stay out near the drum instead of collapsing back into the middle of the brake.

If you are to use a master off a car that had drums on a car that now has discs, you need to remove the check valves.

Apart from that, I have no info for you on whether the masters are suitably sized for what you intend. It's quite possible that both masters might be a bit small for running bigger calipers front and rear.

First master is off a Honda
Limiting valve is off a HQ
Handbrake master cylinder is off a Toyota light commercial clutch

What a hotch potch

Second is a stupid Daewoo

Daewoo master and booster will cause you endless dramas till the end of time
No you can't put the Honda master on the Daewoo booster
Daewoo master seals the fluid on the actual pushrod of the booster so when you remove it it will leak all out the back if the booster pushrod stays in the booster
It has 4 ports cause its a diagonal tandem circuit. Yes the 2 top ones are for fronts... the 2 bottoms rears... they have valves built into those tubes that you can unscrew... its a nightmare master...I wouldn't use it

Adapt something sensible on
Even if you have to put the whole Honda booster and master on it will be better than the Daewoo stuff

Thanks for the help. So I'll ditch all the Daewoo stuff and I think I'll stick a balance bar on there, using something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brake-Bias-Universal-Balance-bar-Pedal-Box-race-Rally_W0QQitemZ200259539590QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_C arsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2ea0661286&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

How do I choose what size masters? The usual starting point is 0.625 and 0.7?

Something like that
Usually you'd go 5/8 front and 3/4 rear

But with commodore claw calipers they might need abit more fluid due to flex
Try 3/4 onb both as a starting point
