View Full Version : Commodore brakes for 15inch wheels

Just doing some thinking at the moment (deadly I know...) but I am looking for some decent calipers to go on a VT disc with 15inch wheels. (Probably on a VR/VS strut, but I don't think that will make much of a difference) Would prefer to not have to machine down the rotors as it makes getting replacements more of a pain especially at short notice.
So anyone got any options for me to think about?

After something a bit better, got VT Calipers on a different car at the moment.

swill has willwood s on his yellow taxi it makes 240 rw kw and gets the ring driven out of it
personally im going to start with dba 4000 series
vt stuff and ds3000 all round run some ducts for track work and i think it ll be close to fine if not then i ll copy swill

Willwood's on stock rotors?
There Brembo's. I think off an eariler Porche. And yes there on Stock rotors with DS3000s. Ill see if I can dig up a pic. And it only makes 240 when a plug lead falls off (E Bragging)

Thanks. Looks like I have some more work to do with much more obtainable parts :)
P.S. Was that your oil filter that came off at Wakefield a few years ago? I'm failry sure it was a BMSC Commo... found the pic the other day.
If by oil filter you mean big end bolt, Then yes it was me :D You did send me some photos you took at the time
I don't have any photo's on hand of the brakes. I will get some this weekend as I'm preparing it for the Alpine. I used an ebay adapter hub to fit the VT rotor on an VK strut and then made an adapter to fit the caliper as it bolts from the top not the side. I swapped over from Harrop disks and hats, but at $600 a disk I went the VT route. It stops pretty good for a 1440kg car. The DS3000 kill the disks, i get about 2000km compeditive from them. There about the cheapest thing to replace on the whole car

Nissan 4 pots
R32 not GTR
Z32 300zx the same
Tried and true on VT discs
Brackets in the shed I might part with if I can find... brand new :)
I was standing on the main straight wall when that came out of a 1200 Dato. Lucky it didn't hit some one in the head and kill them. Stopped the day for a while whilst they got out the concrete dust.
Profi may be the man for some Calipers. He works for a bloke who brings all the good bits from the states. Also I'll get the model number off the brake pad box. That might be the go for will working out exactly what I have.

I'll go NFI here
SO many wheel variables... or do you mean pursuit wheels ?
I'm not a Commodore owner and have never tried to fit them myself
I have a mate with some under 16's but unsure on 15's

Aren't Z32 calipers also used on the V6 D22 Navara?

No
Narava has sliders not opposing 4 pots
And not many use alloy calipers on 4wd's anyway except some Euros
How big are the rotors?
I can fit 15inch ti skyline rims over Z32 4 spots with 280mm rotor on my datsun if that helps.

298 mm or 300 i cant remember

One or the other, I have 298mm now, but they ain't Commodore rotors and they ain't cheap!
298mm rotors with Nissan four spots will be on the limit with 15" wheels, so it will depend very much on the brake clearance of a particular wheel. The difference between various wheels is significant, some newer wheels have good brake clearances, older ones less likely.
Jamie. Here's a few pics of my set up, Pics are a bit Edo but it might give you the general idea of what ive been running

Thanks heaps. One definite option for me now :)
I should ad that Ive got about 8-10mm of wheel spacers on the front. But it runs 15s and I don't think Ive found a wheel that doesnt clear it yet.
Sing out if you need to know more.
I have calipers and rotors depending on what size you want to go. In theory 330s can fit in a 15" wheel but a sane man would only go 315s.

I have 330's which some 17" wheels won't go over, depends a lot on the caliper, wheel design, offset etc. Nissan four spots are not too bad.
