ok I've heard about the 13's for 1300, turns out I'm basically doing this anyways! so I've joined up AGAIN since i totally forget my old username haha.

its a 1988 MX73 cressida glxi rolling shell, its actually quite clean inside and out, silver with god awful burgundy interior haha

and this driveline haha.

so I'm HOPING to keep this under 1300 and will run a 13..

cost so far-

car- $250
driveline- $250
J3 chip- $215
shiftkit- $20
extractors- $200

total 935 so far. 365 to go haha

Cost and parts breakdown seems comprehensive.

Ps lot of work for little gain (weight wise)

Pps conversions are a bitch to get under the budget

As an example of this, your tailshaft will probably cost 3-400 to get done

weight wise I'm saving at least 200 kg straight up, and easily another 100 to possibly 150 kg in simple weight reduction, so should weigh 1200- 1250 when done, also they have 4.11's standard so that will help alot

funnily enough it has a front sump , and accessories are all in the same spot at the 5m, so basically slot it in and get a tailshaft made.

God willing...

Mx73: 1455kg
Ef falcon: 1545kg
and adding a 4.o to a '73 will probably bring the '73's weight up to near 1500

Dont get me wrong, love the oddball conversion!

Interesting, and an EF Tickford engine too. :)

haha yeah should be lots of fun regardless! I'll weigh this when I've done the weight reduction, there doesnt seem to be any difinitive answer to the weights, but i mostly see around 1350 so I'll base it on that for now and then weigh it when its done, falcon motor and trans weighs 70kg more at worst.

motor comes out of the wreck today!

took the motor out with craig :) cant see there being too much extra weight in the driveline, its not that much bigger, plus the torque will make up for it

haha na this one has to take out the NA brown dick.. an rb30 wouldnt cut it!

this isnt going anywhere fast unfortunately... I've been doing lots of other things like finishing the paint on my mates silvia and now I have to get the 32 ready to get another tune for powercruise..

but I'd say it'd be all mounted up soon, I did some measurements today and it should be quite straightforward, although it definitely will have no front swaybar, apart from that every other issue should be fixed with a hammer :D

I hope something beats us so we won't win the wooden dick.
As it stands, Uncle and I have the dick in a bag :(

ok I worked on it today!
bought some secondhand pacemakers for 200
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20153931.jpg

Started fitting the engine, had to 'massage' the trans tunnel a fair bit... its got quite a small one, the box just fits now lol
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20125805.jpg

then made the mounts, easiest mounts i have ever done
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20141135.jpg

started making the gearbox crossmember, more strengthening to do still
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20151610.jpg

fitted the motor!
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20153837.jpg

extractors just hit the steering but shouldnt be hard to make fit
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/holset_cortina/2011-06-20160059.jpg

hopefully the bonnet fits

it is :D I'll get it all running and roadworthy, then rego, then lightening, then track

So how much extra power and torque does this make over a stock N/A 7MGE or 2JZ to make the conversion worthwhile?

Not bagging, serious question.

They come with a 5m which has 120kw.. The story behind all this is someone ran into the back of my mate in the falcon so I went hunting for a shell, and found the cressy. I was going to do a cam, headwork and high stall straight away but my mate showed me the 13s for 1300 so the engine mods can wait now :)

E-Z
21-06-11, 06:00 PM
then we will try for 12s for 1200 craig?
wait whut?

Craigy_
21-06-11, 06:40 PM
12's for 1200 on top of the 1300 haha
