View Full Version : Which one to use

03-10-12, 05:16 PM
Ok so I'm thinking I should get in on this, have cars laying round that should be laying rubber. Just not sure which one to start on, never really bothered modifying shitboxes;
will post more info on each when I could be fucked looking at them.
1) eb/Ed falcon blue no box was auto.
2)eb/Ed falcon green man fucked clutch.
3)vt commonwhore has gas and chromies. Sick.
4)gold vl wagon. is shit. Missing a few things.
I'm thinking turbo e whatever as the dunnydoor is a good spare motor for my landcruiser.

sell up and get something you want to work on?

or get a turbo 4 litre into either of the coons

03-10-12, 05:47 PM
one of the coons, you can get a ba engine for cheap from a wrecker, add a turbo

05-10-12, 09:55 PM
Any 4 litre auto falcon + turbo

05-10-12, 10:00 PM
VL or auto coon

05-10-12, 10:12 PM
VL with coon engine

05-10-12, 10:34 PM
Yeah if you could run the motor (ecu wise) for cheap, a barra VL would be the go

07-10-12, 06:34 PM
Well I just finished pulling out and cleaning up the ED falcon, it's a manual 4.0, not ideal but chose it as it's the least likely to be a cop magnet, car will end up regoed to make it easier to get around. Will post pics up soon, pretty clean nana spec and best part of all it's free!!! (clutch is having an issue I haven't looked into, old matey just dumped it at mine years ago and doesn't want it)

So I guess boost the shit out of it/nos or cheap blower on it as I have 2 spare 4.0s lying round. I do like manuals so I'm kinda keen that way, thinking this may be easiest/happiest solution.
Failing that I will be chasing auto ba running gear. Time to sit and see what comes up.
So running total so far 0$

07-10-12, 06:39 PM
Green, green is nice. Go with the coon.

I'm DJ!
07-10-12, 06:59 PM
Subscribed, water to wine etc..

Vote would've been Vl. Any build is god though.

07-10-12, 08:50 PM
Huge disadvantage using a manual IMO

07-10-12, 09:03 PM
Yeah I know but it's what I have, auto conversion costs money. Don't think I have an auto floating round. Solution? Push more boost til it blows then swap motors.
I dunno i just like manuals.
/has no idea

08-10-12, 08:27 AM
Def turbo falcon. Easiest way to get decent reliable power. Strip as much weight out of the car as you can.

08-10-12, 08:35 AM
So im looking at going single cam the cars got 8.8:1cr factory motor. will boost til head gasket goes then an au steel gasket should sort that out...
Looking at a xr6t manifold (found one for 200) then i think a gt35 will be next up, seems like these are a bolt on upgrade for the ol 4.0. If anyone knows of a setup going cheap hook me up!
ps this is my first turbo build and I have no idea wtf I am doing so any input is appreciated!
Will check out the clutch this arvo and fingers crossed its nothing major. Skids to follow!

08-10-12, 01:01 PM
How are you going to adapt the turbo manifold to a SOHC motor?

08-10-12, 01:05 PM
Someone told me it would bolt up, from your question i guess that they dont?

08-10-12, 01:11 PM

08-10-12, 01:25 PM
Bummer. is it just the flange/stud setup? or are the pipes out of line?, may have to pull the mig out...

08-10-12, 01:40 PM
Port on BA is oval and round on EL. Stud pattern is also different, just make a log for it

08-10-12, 02:03 PM
stitch weld a flange onto the stock manifold and seal it up with braize. It'll work like a boss and cost you stuff all.

08-10-12, 08:05 PM
Make a basic manifold. You can download and print out guides on where to cut the pipe to make a merge. Two 3 into 1 merges and you're done. People will think you're from the collective known as Sven (I don't know whether that is good or bad....)

08-10-12, 08:45 PM
BTW logs seem to work alright for R35's

09-10-12, 06:47 PM
Behold....Progress so far!

09-10-12, 07:08 PM
Cool, what cooler are you going for?

09-10-12, 07:53 PM
Pretty much whatever I can scrounge up. There's a fella on eBay selling a ex manifold that would probably suit it too has a t3/4 flange so might end up with that unless someone wants to make me one for less than 400$ starting to get a bit of my league now as I know carbs and v8s, not turbos and efi etc
So figured I need to find :
Turbo manifold
Larger injectors
So err yeah that's about where I am at at the moment...

09-10-12, 08:17 PM
Failing the exhaust manifold I'll just make a j pipe one and spend the money on a nos kit I think

09-10-12, 08:36 PM
What's a clutch going to cost?

09-10-12, 08:43 PM
Clutch plate should be good it's probably something stupid I reckon less than 50$

09-10-12, 10:26 PM
How'd that offer on the kit go on boosted falcons hehehe

10-10-12, 06:59 AM
You stalking me mate? Haha std low ball worth a shot I figured...
Following ed40's build pretty closely...

10-10-12, 07:02 AM
Wtf! Permanantly banned from bf? Thats bs

10-10-12, 07:56 AM
LOL they don't like lowballers??

IMHO flip the stock exhaust manifold and cut the stock flange off and tack/braise another flange on it. Will cost $50 and work as well as anything, and a fuckload less work than fabbing up a log.

10-10-12, 08:07 AM
Yeah i guess not, didnt mean to offend anyone.
Trying to keep it looking neat and im kinda lazy so may just get the $350 one off ebay. didnt pay for car so have a bit extra in the kitty.

10-10-12, 08:43 AM
Good news, have been unbanned from bf so happy days!! Thankyou bf much appreciated! Now i can keep following the vuilds there!!!

Watching you do this is great as I was getting a little tiring talking about what engine for the XB.

Pull the diff cover and weld up the spider gears for a cig locker.

As Jim said above, get as much weight out of it as possible.

10-10-12, 09:17 AM
Haha yeah that was tiring! Im killing time with this as my mate is building a 650hp clevo to replace his 1200k 500hp clevo which I shall be putting in the xb. No brainer there... This shit on the other hand I have nfi about so will be a good learning curve. trying to keep it pretty street so most of the interior will stay but ac etc is already gone :)

10-10-12, 12:56 PM
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=150920159630 thoughts?

10-10-12, 01:41 PM
That'll do the job!

14-10-12, 06:16 PM
So er I kinda bought a zex nitrous kit... $325 couldn't walk past it :)
So now plan is register it then nitrous it then drag w/o nos then drag with nos. Just for shits n giggles....
Still waiting on turbo shit etc so will worry about that later!

Gas is good fun. Just don't get too greedy straight up. Have a bit of a play before you push the head gasket (or a piston) out of it.

14-10-12, 08:13 PM
Yeah good advice there, has a 150 nozzle on it and that's all I got, probably only do a couple runs on it before I get the turbo setup on. Engine strength will be tested then! Do have spare motors if the need arises!

15-10-12, 09:08 AM
I found out the entry level solenoids will only flow 150hp so don't bother jetting for more than that.
Also, better to use much less NOS just to get the turbo to spool than trying to make reliable power on NOS alone from a fogger system.

Motherfucker Jones
15-10-12, 10:01 AM
Just make sure you've got some revs into it before you hit the button. If its anything like an AE92 corolla it wont like a 100 shot up it straight off idle

15-10-12, 11:16 AM
Haha yeah the nos is just a bit extra to get me across the line, it will end up in the xb at some stage no doubt... gonna have it on a switch, maybe a go baby go know haha

Greg Rust
15-10-12, 12:52 PM
Good shit, you will have to use the WOT switch that comes in the kit, it's just a microswitch that opens the solenoids once you hit WOT.

Motherfucker Jones
15-10-12, 01:13 PM
Yeah don't use the horn button :D

15-10-12, 02:07 PM
Aww but go baby go looks cooler/imawanker. plus thats something else to reuse in the xb/monaro.

22-10-12, 09:29 PM
Scored an auto! Should make it a bit easier!

22-10-12, 10:00 PM
Automatic gearbox or car with automatic gearbox?

22-10-12, 11:40 PM
Car with auto. Nl score! My car had a man conversion done to it, so all I got to do is install auto then remove clutch pedal as the auto pedal box is still in there! Easy!

30-10-12, 08:02 PM
Have turbo manifold off this now... Need everything else. Getting excited!

04-11-12, 01:55 PM
To go e85 and no ic or ic and no e85? I'm thinking e85 bigger injectors and pump. Ic gives sleeper away!

22-11-12, 04:36 PM
Chose the ic route. $100 bucks.
Gonna rego it sometime soon, got a new clutch going in sometime next week. Fuck auto I'm staying manual!

27-11-12, 07:26 AM
Injured. Fucked ribs now can't really breathe right. Yay! Anyway while I'm laid up I'll just buy more parts. Any cunts wanna give me a gt3582? Can swap a fish tank and a bald tyre?

28-11-12, 07:44 AM
shit mate that's no good! What happened??

30-11-12, 10:04 AM
Yeah sucks, got nailed in the ribs at training! Fucking smashed the cartilage joining my ribcage. Good shot!
