    Stamp Duty on new cars lowered in Vic

    so yeah, if you're a new car dealer, I wouldn't bother going to work this weekend since the don't come into effect until next week.

    Weird decision. Must be being picketed by Holden/Ford/Mitsu/Toyota to do this surely?
    Many families wouldn't even be seriously able to afford a new $40K car even without a small subsidy.
    The hybrid discount on rego is understandable, the rest is just bizarre. Good for anyone buying a new car in that price range, but otherwise,

    why aren't they cutting duty under $35k where the bulk of the sales are and where battling families really shop?

    oh i forget - aussie made cars aren't in that category...

    I remember the labour government was promising to cut stamp duty when I was down there as an election promise.. 4 years ago
