Please explain? Tri-Y describes a type of in-line six cylinder headers. Applicability of description to a V8 is what exactly?

these will have three Y sections (4 pipes into 2 and then 2 pipes ino 2), thus tri-y

That's not tri-y. That's one pair of y's then two straight pipes.

4 primaries go into 2 collectors (so two ys so far) these secondary pipes then go into the main collector (the third Y) Since the extractors are made/sold up to that collector, for each bank, they are a tri-y - or a total of 6 per engine.

Maybe a slight price drop would get some more interest? (I'm not after them myself, so can't speak for others, but it's probably a good idea, even if they are worth more, if you want to sell em quicker)

I saw extractors for a Ford 250 that actually were tri-ys. They had three primary collectors (each with only two primary pipes going into it, from adjoining cylinders) and a three into one secondary collector. Of course this is a crap idea.

What the rest of you are calling tri-y are more correctly called "interference" design headers. I reckon the usage of tri-y to describe standard interference design headers on 4 and 8 cylinder enginers is a misnomer that has come about by common usage.

    Last word?

    cheers

the ford extractors - I'll take a stab - HM headers?

Unless you intend to produce evidence that the etymology of tri-y is rooted in tri-y in parallel then a misnomer it is not.

Last word - anyone got a cure for insomnia?

As I understand it you can have both interference and non-interference tri-y style pipes, it just comes back to if the pipes are equal length or not.

    last word failed.
