There's a facelifted version that's just hit the roads in Europe:

    More pics here too.

The only downside I can remember from reading about this car is that you can't get cruise control (WTF?)

They look pretty sharp I reckon, especially in some of the colours they come in.

I've driven a few, there seems to be a slight disparity between the ones I drove, so if it's not just my experience you might want to drive a few to find the fittest one.

Other than that, they're quite strong, handlt well, sit really solidly for that sized car and have a decent quality interior.

If you're in the market for that type of car you won't be disappointed, although I can't vouch for reliability/servicing/running costs.

I think Metro Ford in Ann street had one yesterday but it might have been a Fiesta...

dont forget to look at the mps3 , they are fun in a strange way and slow selling & deals are there to be had if your persistent. Most mazda dealers will deny that though and are quite arrogant in that regard.

New one looks shitloads better. They finally got rid of the ghey grey plastic inserts in the front and rear bars! I've seen a few and quite like the look. Performance seems alright. But I've been told there's no left footrest for the driver! That's far worse than not being able to have cruise control.....

i thought there was a much longer wait than that with the xr5. i seem to recall a friend ordering one over a year ago and taking delivery at the end of this year.

When I was shopping around for my Focus there was no shortage of XR5's in showrooms.

Whoa, new model in June - I didn't think they were bringing it here this early, I thought it was going to be a locally made one?

Denmac at Indooroopilly have an orange one sitting outside, saw it when I drove past today, they also have the exact FG XR6 Turbo that's on the cover of Wheels or Motor this month and were doing test drives from what I saw (Vic rego XFG something?).

XR5 isn't a bad drive, my gripes were the seats are too high, no cruise control and no left footrest.

There's a good forum at http://www.fordxr5turbo.com/ where you'll be able to find more info.

No, that's not 'til 2010 or 2011. Probably the next entirely-new model.
Wonder if the new model will be available in the 3dr? They look at least 10% better, and usually for $1k less ...

Reliability should be fine, it's a Volvo powertrain & it seems to be pretty reliable in the S40/V50/C30/etc.

I think I'd be driving the Mazda3 MPS & Golf GTI if I were in this market, however, especially with the facelifted Golf coming out with something like 180kW soon-ish. The Focus seems to have better balance & feel & refinement than the MPS, but I suspect the raw urgency of the MPS would win me over for only a coupla thousand more.

the MPS is a top car and they just dropped the price to $38,xxx - definitely a must drive (I prefer it over the Focus)

yeah don't believe the "none in australia" line.. its bullshit. there's a few up here. there's even a new FPV Cobra GT which supposedly sold out long ago (hence the bullshit price tags).

i believe GSRman's dealer also told him there were no BF2 XR6T's being built and there were none left in australia, but they're still out there now and with 2008 builds too.

Wouldn't be the first time dealers had no idea what was happening...

That new Focus pic looks pretty good.

look up the review off topgear.
    Clarkson quite liked it.

I was going to take one for a test drive when i was shopping for a new car but none were available and when i found one on the central coast the ford dealer was a cunt about it and said i had to put a 1g deposit down first before i drove it so i took my business to Subaru.

for power up apparently the intercooler on them isn't efficient enough for Aussie conditions as they were designed for Europe.
    yep

My only real objection to them was the notchy, vague gearshift, and slightly numb steering (Mind you, the Mazda is much worse in that regard). Oh and the Sony Stereo looks like a cheap 'n' shitty home hifi from five years ago. Other than that good seats, good brakes, and good mid-range shove.

Ford were cunty when a mate wanted to test drive one a while back...wanted a $5k deposit before they'd let him take it around the block. He told them to get fucked and took his cash to VW.
