Hi all
Has anyone on here done this conversion?
How involved was it once you factor in CV's, retaining A/C etc?
Cheers Matt

yeah its been done 3 times in au i know of
silver top in silver car in melb, blacktop in some other colour car in syd, and dave loftus 7age with 20v head in the race car
silver car guy cut the chassis rail, other guy didnt, but ended up having to pretty much solid mount the motor, as the clearance to the chassis rail is VERY tight if u dont cut it.
not too sure how they went with CV's, but given that the gearboxes are interchangable (with a swap of a bellhousing) i dont think it would be a big deal there. i have a 20v gearbox in my EP91, with a starlet bellhousing on it. you can contact the guy with the silver one on austarletclub - username is "c288" he is also on toymods

Sounds like too much trouble for me.
What have been the best mods for your Starlet in terms of lap times excluding semi slicks (these are a given to me on a circuit car)?
I know I've said it before but a 65 at QR is really impressive out of your little Starlet.

i think there are better bases to be honest. a car similar to mine (a 4 door though), bigger brakes, more stripped, and 220hp atw forged turbo donk has only done a 61.11 on sprint. once u are going fast the beam rear is probably not a very good thing to have.
in comparison my mates full weight (1150kg listed weight) EK civic with a 1.6L VTEC, exhaust, filter, good pads and some coilovers can do a 61 as well. its got FAR less power. all this is of course ignoring the difference the driver makes....you need to work that one out yourself
but most important mods for a starlet are good shocks/springs, swaybars front and rear (aussie models have no stock front bar and no models have a stock rear bar) and probably some front camber - im running -2ish. also probably the whiteline caster/anti-lift kit

I am more looking at this as a cheap, reliable family project. Both my brother and I have reasonably quick but old cars and I am looking for an option that, while not super quick, will finish every event and allow us some extra seat time.
I was thinking adjustable swaybars, front brake pads and stripped interior as a starting point with strut/spring or coilovers down the track.
Thoughts?
Matt

here is the posts about dave loftus starlet

Get it to wheel spin uncontrollably then give it another 10 pounds boost
Life begins at 30 PSI
thats pretty much my car, without the stripped biti love that i can go to a motorkhana/sprint etc, bounce it off limiter all day, and know im gonna be able to drive it home.
and if you want more power you can always chuck in a turbo motor (4EFTE) for not much work, or a paseo/cynos/sera motor (5EFE - 1.5L N/A). both are bolt ins, just some wiring differences, and working out which ECU to run etc.
