The thing is that I could bring you cash so you hand over the keys and then I take the money back off you a minute later when my three cousins step out from the bushes... If the car is going in a container anyways who cares if you call the cops straight away- slim chance of being caught anyways.

I wouldn't call the cops. I'd call the boys at the docks. Then when the car turns up, you would be going into the container.

    Cash is king.

17 years ago I flew into Sydney (Milsons Point) and paid a 55 y.o. widow $23k in cash for a car.
Thought nothing of it at the time as cash was the normal way of paying for things.
She invited me into her house as she counted it, once she was happy I offered her a lift into town to her bank. She declined and said Im happy to take the walk over the Bridge (Sydney Harbour).
How times have changed... The world sucks these days.

I have only ever accepted cash for cars, these days it might be safer to meet the buyer at your own bank to deposit the cash straight away.

Sorry you had to go through this shit experience

Great you got paid out though!!!

If I was going to rip you off there's a good chance I could still do it with cash. If I'm paying you $30k in cash, how many fake notes can I slip in there? Are you going to examine each bill individually? Or are you going to have the bank do it?

If I was smart, instead of giving you $30k in $100 notes (which wouldn't be too bad) I would be smart to make it a mix of $20s and $50s..

THats why you meet them at your bank, get the bank to count it.

Yeah, but is the bank going to count it, or count it and examine it?

It's been a while since I had to deal with large amounts of cash, so I don't know if modern counters automagically detect for counterfeits at the same time. I imagine they do though, and I'd hope the bank has `em..

Go to their bank, watch them withdraw the cash, and then accept it..

    all drastic measures though.

I picked the guy that bought my VT coming from Melb up at the Airport. Felt a bit suss when the first thing he asked after jumping in was "Can you score any speed around here?" Deal done I was on a train with 7k in my pocket. that was a bit interesting.

My boss' Dad sold his drag car and had someone turn up with 80k cash so it does happen. I'd say if you're worried have some weapons/backup, otherwise if someone wants it badly enough there's not much you can do.

I still think there is a place here for towie to make some cash as a car escrow service.. eg, he comes, picks up the car, holds it securely, when the cheque clears, he delivers the car.

There have been cases of counterfeit notes in Australia, but very rare.

Because, our note technology is not as basic as the american watermarks and uv markings. With Aussie notes being printed on plastic, a certain type of plastic - it's very hard to duplicate / counterfeit as the type of printer that would be needed to create fake $$ cost so much (and on the black market i'd imagine 10 x that) that you'd need to buy assets or circulate the fake money on such a grand scale - to make it even remotely worth the risk and cost to produce it.

This is why the fuckwit that roughted the Evo did a cheque. Yes, still extremely hard to counterfeit, BUT still printed on paper not polymer.

Funnily enough, the technology company securincy that own the patent have recently been done for multi-national corruption by paying off people in other countries to endorse their technology for their currency.

The safest way is to go with them to the bank and witness the cheque getting drawn. The crims have special programs, printers and the paper to produce fakes. Its hard to get ripped off when you see the cheque getting printed up in front of you

There's no doubt plenty of hassle and angst before you (maybe) get your money... Bad luck if you had to use that money immediately to pay some other debt.

I'll draft the contracts and/or smash anyone who tries to commit fraud...

That way, you get a legally binding escrow agreement, secure payment, secure storage and the off chance of vigilante violence.

For some reason i can't see the boys in blue contacting you to say "yeah, we got him".

    don't be so sure.

About a year or two after my car was stolen they apparently caught the scum bags and the cops gave me a call to say they got them, but not to expect any sort of compensation/excess repaid for the insurance claim since they were no good dirtbag bogans with less than $2 to their name.
