there isnt black magic in the f1, but their standards are exceptionally high and it is treated like a race car. e.g. when the tires are replaced they completely rerun through the suspension tuning setup, corner weighted etc. Runs a foam fuel cell that has FIA cert and therefore FIA expiration and has to be replaced every 3 years or whatever it is etc.

Wonder if he ever uses the dial up modem that came with the F1's to contact the UK for tech updates.

You're right though, good article. some great photos in there.

Kurt Busch's media representative contacted me before they built it asking for info on a few Pantera race cars here to get some ideas.

Reckon it would look a lot better if the rear cover was a couple of inches shorter in height.

Twin turbo 4.1L and it still took 14.8 seconds to run a quarter?
Jeez I'm glad I don't live back then.

Sierra 4x4 T5/transfer/front diff maybe? I remember reading about it, but absolutely don't recall any detail on the driveline.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Quote from the bloke who's dad was restoring it (found on Ford Forums):

"The car runs a ZF 5 speed manual with a transfer case incorporated into it, which was developed in England by Ferguson Formula Developments along with AAT especially for the car. The transfer case drives a shaft which then drives the front wheels which are incorporated into the engine sump which is all alloy."

Even if it doesnt go into production. Their philosophy of using race car tech in road cars and adapting race cars for the road is very group b era thinking. Which generally makes for some awesome cars. Let's see if they can back it up.

Ah, Toyota, they really haven't managed the performance road car thing at all in my eyes. A lack of continuity rather than a lack of great cars as such. There is no thread linking Celica GT4 Rally to LSF to LFA. Look at the LFA, widely acclaimed as a wonderfull thing but followed up by nothing, all of that design and development work lost, not to mention the production facilities for that mighty V10..surely could have convinced Lotus to take over use of the engine...and now what ? Something else, not linked to anything else they build, no history, no evolution and likely no future.

They need to take a page from Porsche's book and weave a narrative through their performance cars.

    I disagree.

After 2002 Toyota had nothing for a bit. Now we have stuff like the Mark X/ISF350 as a attainable fast comfy car.

They possibly didn't do a coupe at the time because, no one was buying coupes. No point building something unless there is a market to sell it.
