You do know you can mechanically release air brakes?
Fwiw, the truck looks like an F450. They're rated to tow upto 8.6 tonnes using a bumper pull, ie ring feeder/pintle hook/Barnet ball.
If he's serious he's probably got a dedicated air brake system for the trailer anyway, know a few people who have air brakes for their 5th wheel RVs being towed by F450s.

CSH. He obviously was towing it so he obviously had a way to override the brakes or use them. I donít know what F truck it is but as above probably a F-450 the thing is not far off being a fucking truck. A F-650 would probably out tow some trucks that are prime movers.

Or he just adjusted them until they were released. Just need a shifter...

Ring feeder will just drop over a standard 50mm ball. Nothing to stop it bouncing off but I do it in the yard occasionally

You can buy balls with a latch to stop the ring from jumping off.

They're called an "Integrated Ball and Pintle Hook". I'm looking at one for situations where I need to go past the 7000lb rating on my forged ball mount. A 12,000lb Reese integrated ball and pintle mount is cheaper than buying a drop forged ball mount plus a ball that both have more than a 7000lb rating (need 7500lb rated fittings to rent the heavy duty U-Hail car trailers, as U-Haul checks the ratings on your hitch before they'll hook up the trailer).

Dunno what it's like back in Oz, but here, my standard Class 5 car license here allows me to drive any single vehicle not in excess of 14 000 kg (30 864 lbs.) G.V.W. or a towed vehicle combination of the same limit providing the trailer does not exceed a G.V.W. of 4500 kg (10 000 lbs.). Air Brakes require a separate air brake endorsement.

If that's an F450 which it looks like it is, he'd need at least an LR license anyway since the GVM is more than 4500kg. Unless some idiot derated it to 4495kg in which case an HSV Maloo has a greater payload capacity.

Not sure if they have a hard limit, IE no more than Xkg. But listed ratings change between cars.

But something definitely needs to be done. I'm on the road enough to see towing-related incidents on a weekly basis. Sure, some stacks are just sheer bad luck, but a lot of it is caused by total idiocy.
Should be in Oz too, you just need to look at all the incompetent numpties at the rubbish tip/Bunnings on Saturday mornings trying to manoeuvre their box trailers around

I'm a numpty at manoeuvring trailers but I know this so I refrain from trying.

My guess (based on Tassie rules) would be that the trailer has a GVM (maximum loaded mass) over 9 tonne so is classified as a heavy trailer. The F-Truck is likely registered as a LR truck, and so isn't allowed to tow a heavy trailer, needs to be registered as a combination truck to be able to. Even if the trailer was empty and is less than 9t the rules are still based on GVM.

Could have been perfectly safe and within towing limits (if empty and brakes working) but doesn't meet regulations.

Air brake kits are available so it may have functional brakes. http://5thwheelers.com.au/product/air-brake-kit/

Common in Europe and the UK.

Not so much here. Worked for a place that had one to do auction runs.

Standard 2 wheel dolly trailer. Very popular in North America, especially for towing FWD cars. About half the cost to rent from U-Haul as a proper car trailer. In Canada, the catch is that because 2 wheels are touching the road, the car being towed needs to be both licensed and insured.

Trailers often have a yellow service button alongside the red 'park'
yellow releases enough air from reservoir tank on chassis rail to release brakes in order to just move it

Is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

Not sure what's more fucked, the Patrol or the trailer it's on.

Saw an old speed boat being towed yesterday. The bar below the prop was only an inch of the ground and on closer inspection the tandem trailer only had one axle.
