Pic cliffs. First set was pics was taken from a moving tow truck and showed the falcon towing a landcruiser on a trailer with jockey wheel down, plus the cruiser tied down poorly. Second set of pics showed the lot after a jackknife with the landcruise fallen off the trailer and the tow tounge ripped off the ford. Due to pure luck, the ford and cruiser didn't roll and damage was pretty light considering, but the trailer was 100% fucked.

I was out the front of my parents place one night and I heard a V8 giving it heaps up the street and a lot of metal scraping sounds.
This commodore came over the hill and down the street going about 80ish (50 zone) he had a trailer on the back and the jockey wheel was down which was what was causing the loud scraping sounds. There were sparks flying off the jockey wheel at one point. I waved to the dude to tell him that his jockey wheel was down.
    He gave me the finger.
I assume he thought I was going to yell at him to "slow down in my street you young hooligan!" or something.
I didn't really care about his speed, people speed down that street all the time. I only really noticed it after the guy had flipped me off.

I hope his jockey wheel is fucked after that. he hurt my feelings

i used to work at kennards, jockey wheels came back fucked pretty regularly, also youd get the nice smell of brakes coming in sometimes from a muppet who had left the handbrake on.

I popped a trailer with a bobcat on it off the tow hook once because the trailer clipped the inside of the corner, safety chains ftw.

Stick to 60km/h you would be sweet, bunch of fucken soft cocks. Although probably would not recommend high speed shit in the rain.

How long do you reckon a jockey wheel would last at 60km/h when loaded?

It'd naturally depend on just how hard it was stressed - i.e. how much weight it was taking. A mate of mine did the same thing - well he let the wheel down enough to hook it on the towball, but forgot to totally retract it and rotate it 90 deg and lock it up there. Well he reckons it made some odd noises about 20 minutes after leaving, and it wasn't particularly bumpy roads.

I'd suspect something like less than 10km if really heavily loaded, and assuming the jockey wheel setup was in brand new condition to start with.

God help us if it becomes necessary, esp in preference to adults teaching their kids how to tow safely (and if they don't know, they should go and bloody learn), but I can see a nanny state trailer reg that somehow links the jockey wheel to brakes, so you can't take off with it down or something. Or worse still, where we have to get an extra qualification with our licences just to allow towing a tandem trailer. That'd mean revenue, so they might consider it in the nanny state, for our safety of course.

Apparently in pommy land you do need a qualification to tow larger trailers behind some vehicles. For a while all the Land Rover magazines seemed love doing features on how to pass the test and shit like that.
