13's for $1300. VN of FURY

    Hey guys.

After seeing the 13's for $1300 thread we (my two brothers and I) thought that we would give it a crack

So we went out and bought this.

Full running and driving VN series 1 with ice cold air con.

Our first idea (and only real option) was to turbo it so we bought this turbo with munted front cover and leaky oil seal.

So this weekend just past we thought that we shoudl get some shit done so we modded the standard manifold using sections of the stock exhaust to make these.

And used some scrap 10mm plate for a T4 flange

So after all our work so far this is how it looks.

so our tally thus far comes to

    VN : $250
    Used oilly turbo : $200
    T4 flange made from scrap : $10
    T4 gasket : $5
    RB25 oil drain : $ 10
Studs and nuts for turbo : $10
Flange for tubine outlet : $10
    Ebay gate : $123
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MONSTA-50MM-W...item519582050f
    Flex Joint for manifolds : $ 30

Alloy elbow for turbo : $10
    4x wrecker injectors : $60
Fuel rail and fittings (rail was an offcut) : $20
    Charge pipe material : $15
Silicon reducer for throttle body : $10
    25mm alloy bar stock : $20
    2x pressure switches : $88
Oil feed line and "T" piece : $50
    Dry ice : $20

Injector plugs and terminals : $15
    Jap cat back : $30
    second hand S15 fuel pump : $20
Shorter fan belt for no aircon : $30
    Diff oil : $15

    Replacement motor : $100
    Overhaulled radiator : $30

    Converter : $100

That comes to a total of $1281.

ECU? Why did you add a flex joint?

I would guess and say the flex joint was already attached to the recycled pipework

can you make a cheap boost pressurised methanol spray for the turbo inlet ? with enough methanol, you won't have to worry about an intercooler, extra injectors or the amount of stock timing.

And surely the flex joint is because the v6 tends to be a little rough and vibrate a ton?

You owned a VN and are actually admitting to it?

    GTFO.

Nice work with the car boys, will be very interested to see how this pans out (or goes bang in a big way)

The flex joint appears to be between the banks, which seems a little odd. Also the ecu is only writeable by tuned rom or aftermarket board.

I put the flex join in to give the manifolds a chance from cracking.

ECU wise, just going to keep adding injectors until it is fat enough and hopefully drown it from detonation, fingers crossed.

The one thing I am worried about is the head gaskets, but we'll just have to see how it goes

flex joint is not uncommon between banks to absorb minor misalignment during fabrication and also to absorb possible differences in heat related expansion between the banks

    awesome build by the way!

Haha it was pretty good for a 20 year old - until I broke the cam in 3 places... the second motor put a rod out the block at ~220 (if it wasnt the fact it was my car in the middle of nowhere at 2am it would have been fucking cool.. rattle, oil light, BOOM, flames shooting out the side) .. the third motor was pretty damn good...

I still have the car sitting in the yard, motors only got 10 000km on it before it smashed the box and I finally wised up and bought a skyline. Fark now I think about it, its been sitting there for nearly 7 years.

If it goes bang Id be willing to sell my vn wreck pretty damn cheap - the motor is still damn good.

I think the standard manifold is going to struggle supporting the weight

Get someone from street comm or just comm forums to write you a chip for this. Cost you fifty bucks and it'll run sweetly with out bodged injectors and what not. Maybe add a brace to the manifolds back to the head for extra support.

Ok time for some progress updates.

We finished making the intake pipe with the extra injectors and pressure switches, fitted the oil line to the turbo and the interior stripped out.

The turbo oil feed line was teed off the oil pressure switch near the oil filter and run to the turbo.

The intake pipe we got in pieces from a second hand R33 GTST intercooler kit. the injector bosses and pressure switch take offs we made from alloy bar stock.

We stripped out all the interior. It is so much easier removing the interior when you just dont give a shit We used a bag of dry ice to remove the sound deadening to get some weight out of this bitch. I had heard of people doing the dry ice trick before but never actually done it myself. It worked a real treat. Just leave it sit for a little while and smash it with a hammer. We also took to the doors with the grinder. Nice and light now haha

We will update the first post with a updated running total.

    Hope you enjoy.
