    A bit of an update.

The Evo was still a heavy bitch and was fitted with parts behind the dash that are now redundant. All up some 20kg was removed without breaking a sweat.

The trusty Bonds bolt in cage served it's purpose, but it was removed and moved on. A fairly basic cage, but with all plates and bolts etc., the old cage weighed a surprisingly hefty 41kg.

The car has been getting quicker over the years, and with the new 400wkw + engine/turbo package, it was time to bite the bullet and fit a decent comprehensive cage. I gave the guys at Adelaide Motorsport Fabrication the task of fabricating and installing a full type 3 Cams cage. Currently just waiting for Cams approval before painting. We estimate the new cage to weigh around 50kg which isn't much more than the Bonds bolt in considering all the extra bars.

Because I am time poor, I had the guys at Adelaide Motorsport Fabrication do some work on my heavy doors. Standard doors cards, glass, electric windows, central locking, wiring, brackets, door handles and side intrusion bars were all deleted and the doors were totally gutted. In place, alloy door cards were made up and 3mm lexan fitted all round including the rear window. One of the easiest ways to shave off 50kg.

All up expecting the car to be at least 60kg lighter than before, and obviously a bit stiffer due the cage. More updates to come in the next week or so

Fair to say that it's days are numbered as far as a street car goes.

The roll cage has been CAMS certified (yay!) and given a coat of matt black. The alloy door cards and lexan windows are all in. Just need a slider for driver's window and NACA duct in the rear for ventilation. New rear alloy bulkhead, new floor plate and seat base all fabbed and fitted. Almost time to start putting it all back together. Merry Christmas.

Had a belated Christmas present this year when the party piece for the Evo 6 finally arrived on my doorstep. Was definitely worth the wait! After speaking to Ben from Benchmark, I had Fabtech in NSW knock together this turbo kit consisting of:

    - EFR 8374 IWG T4 turbo

    - Custom Hypex 347 S/S manifold

    - Custom 3.5" turbo dump pipe and front pipe

    - Custom 4" alloy intake with K&N filter

    - Spal slim line fan with shroud

Should comfortably push 400wkw without stressing the turbo too much, but I might have to invest in shares in driveline parts with the additional torque.

The Engine rebuild commences early next month.

Cheers, should go pretty well, but it is still very much a budget build.

Got the car back from the fabricators this week, and gave it a bit of TLC as it hadn't seen a chamois for 15 months. Was going to treat it to a blow over respray, but it still scrubs up 'okay' for an original 19 yo Mitsubishi paint job. Will leave it for now as I might wrap the car later down the track. Peeled back all the protective film on the lexan windows. Looks great when it's all clean, new and scratch free. Going to order a window slider for driver and duct for some air flow/ventilation from Demon tweeks.

Also fitted a brand new windscreen after the retard who removed the perfectly good original cracked it.

Been hiring shitty car trailers for 6-7 years and I was completely fucking over it. Bit the bullet and contacted SA trailers in Burton and gave them an order for a new trailer late last year. They had a really good rep and I have been thoroughly impressed with their quality and service. The price was reasonable too. Deck is 2.0m wide (widest I can legally go), so there should be sufficient width should I ever decide to go widebody.

Just about finished, just need lights/wiring and a coat of charcoal hammertone paint.

Doing all the things right. In a perfect world we should be able to drive to golf/shops/pub in these things.
