its funny what people have.
i'd arranged a decent red calibra as a donor car. the owner wanted $500 and it was a good std car. late model dispak coscast too. he messed me around for ages, and in passing mentioned to one of the lads at work i was looking for one.
his response? "got one at home, its an insurance write off that was fixed then the owner found out it couldnt be registered. if you want it its $150"
so, expecting something totally fubar, this morning i drove 20 mins to collect this:
an august 1992 built opel calibra. its got a dizzy xe with a gm head. it has a remus exhaust, k+n panel filter, koni coilovers, momo wheel and gearknob and 17" bbs alloys with new tyres. ill strip it this week and sell the bits i dont need. hopinbg the mags etc will bring in some decent cash. oh and the engine light fixed itself. i flashed the codes and it went.....
start stripping it tomorrow.
Score!
now with extra gearbox'y goodness
aye, its a bit of a shame to part it but it cant be registered.
ive already got parts on ebay...
This is gunna be good.
oooh, looky, it's already colour coded under there sloth.....
DJ's don't need sigs
I'm curious as to why the engine is super clean and everything else looks like it has been untouched since it left the factory
now with extra gearbox'y goodness
That's an awesome score!

"Reacher figured if he could put that drivetrain in some battered old sedan body, then that would be his kind of car"

What's difference between a standard calibra and that one?
I never realised the c20xe had so much potential, good work so far.
P.S nice bit of land you got there, needs a man shed.

there are 4 models here, a 2.0 8v auto from a camira, the c20xe in this one,a v6 2.5 and the turbo 4x4 6 speed.
the engines a bit of a masterpeice, cosworth designed head, mahle pistons and a knifedged and balanced crank as std. theyn won touring cars and rallying and all sorts of stuff with it.
i have a shed. its full of morris1500 and other tat.
update:
corsa loom fitted:
dead calibra:
and todays work:
mount modified and spaced. linkage fits fine. spaced by 10mm. bolts threadlocked
lug on front of box cut off. old nova trick, gives more fan/rad clearance.
front mount on, threadlocked too.
wiring taped. not perfect neat but good.
dead cali, off to become tincans.
last mount. im trying to use the stock cali mount, a navara towbar bracket (tes, really) and some fab work.....
n.b ill be using the cali clocks, as theyre cable and the barina is electric.
Nice! Big advantage having done it before, yeah?

And in the interests of education in of the English sort...

Dolomite sprint was a bit of kit for the age - first 4v head and alloy wheels, hot proto manchester chav sort o thing innit? cbf remembering piss taking specifics, that might have to do.
light rover v8 addition, good or bad? forgetting the $$, basic thing would be pretty decent?
yeah, its a lot easier with a bit of knowhow. there are aspects that are new ground for me, the mount above and the heater bypass im making from a zre152 corolla water pipe....
the t awd is a monster. but the c20xe isnt to be sniffed at. the cali i got managed 210kmh on the way home after being sat a few years....
i know a lad local fitting an ls7 and t56 into a dolly....
the factory put a few stag v8s into them for a giggle too. did you know the sprint 16v motor became the saab 16v motor?
I'll be the first to come out of the calibra closet and say I thought the awd t seemed like an awesome bit of kit. But being in beef and HV8/Ls land, they never had a chance so just don't hear/see people doing them. Still think they look cool and a decent achievement for it's time.

And cool, dolomite and light rover 3.5 sounds like a pretty awesome little thing if it holds together. Ironically love the big motor small car as much as I generally dislike toranas. And afor Ls love + manwell sounds freakin awesome*2
So the 110kw or so in this should be able to drag the corsa down the strip in about 13 then?
yeah, a mate in pom land ran a 13.7 with a stock engine, and a full dash etc. ill be running no dash and fuck all else....
if not ill throw 150bhp shot through it.
theres some huge power calibras about in germany. the uk just like throwing the engines in small shit.
as for toranas, i actually prefer the hb ones......
Awesome. Embarrassment laughs should make it worth it, especially with 150 nos.
's much as I like this, a big power calibra left nice and stock on the outside would be awesome. Would take over wrx or closes period ganger.theres some huge power calibras about in germany. the uk just like throwing the engines in small shit.
Hah, because viva?as for toranas, i actually prefer the hb ones......
Irony again, I actually don't mind these too because closer to Kadett. Nice classy looking old things. The later ones ramp the boags up too much for me and that's coming from a guy with 5 empty Boags on the table.
Kupgw.

first brit production 4v per cylinder 16v engine.

actually were both wrong:
The first mass-produced car using four valves per cylinder was the British Jensen Healey in 1972 which used a Lotus 907 belt-driven DOHC 16-valve straight-4 producing {(54.6 kW/liter, 1.40 bhp/cid}.
tanken from wikipedia.
apparently the escy doesnt count as its not mass produced but hand built by avo in ockendon, with engines by cosworth.
but then, also from wiki:
As a result of this new engine, the Dolomite Sprint has a claim to be the world's first "truly mass-produced" multi-valve car. While other multi-valve engines (notably the Lotus 907) were produced in volume, they were not used in mass production vehicles until after the introduction of the Dolomite Sprint

"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."
Are you a vampire?
