    Lakeside bites again

Scott Dean had a massive off at the kink today. According to Michelle his wife he is in Hospital with a broken back ( thoracic area) and apparently the HANS device he was wearing saved further serious injuries. A couple others injured in the accident but all are ok.

I was there when it happened, but didn't see it.

An Escort went off just after the Kink on the warm-up lap, Scott lost it a few laps later and ran into it - it was bucketing down and there was a small river running across the track just after the Kink. It took them about half an hour to get him out of the car. The car didn't look that bad, just the front pushed-in a fair bit but there was damage most of the way up the bonnet to the bottom of the windscreen.

Best wishes for his speedy recovery.

Fuck. Thoughts are with him and family for good recovery.

Dad has been caught out by the river at the kink, luckily the car came to a stop about 1m from the wall.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I think that car was a relatively new build too.

"Garry Wilkinson on his outlap vented oil all over the track from a broken line from pit exit through the kink and half way to Karrussel. Wilkinson pulled over on the inside and Scott Dean slid off track on the oil and hit Wilkinson's parked car."

not good. wish him a quick recovery.

Message on FB from Scott's missus -
    Hi it's Michelle again
Scott's doing well resting up in the Royal Brisbane Hospital
Big note on seatbelts make sure the straps that are between your legs are extremely tight it appears that scott had some movement down the seat on impact so make sure they are really really tight......
The hospital told us the HANS 100% saved his life
I watched the in car footage just before and the dash readout was showing 164km/h when he hit the back of the escort OMFG a good day all round that he will still be able to walk and talk thanks for all your well wishes xxxxxxx michelle
One of the important parts is bolded.
I've advised them to not make the video public.

Wilko in escort helmet cracked from the hoop , seat ended up broken as well. ERT waited till QAS arrived to move Scott.
The Yaris actually still rolled which helped when we were loading it in his truck .

Anything that prompts people to buy more safety gear can only be a good thing surely ?

There's plenty of vids around that show much the same thing and Scott doesn't need people looking at how he nearly got killed.

raises the question, would you even have a chance at spotting oil on a soaking wet track in PISSING rain? (maybe if you got out and stared at the rainbow reflection?).
first you'd know of it is that youd wobble off with zero grip. scary thought and terrible that its actually happened to Scott
cant blame flaggies, just a shit of a thing

I know the bloke in the Escort - quick, better ring and make sure he doesn't post any footage !

Geeez Bill. I'd being saying post it along with something like "Buy a HANS and give yourself a chance when something like this happens..."

Glad both guys are ok, thanks for the info Kyle. Out of interest was it the older Mk 1, or the RS2000 shaped one ?

x2 if that happened to me and posting it convinced even one person to equip a HANS device and possibly save their lives it'd be worth surely

It was the red mk1 ,he came 3rd last round at Morgan Park.
They have actually been pushing to make HANS/Next Gen style neck restraints compulsory at Lakeside.
We talked about it at club meeting last week , Scott was there and said he would be wearing one , most of our drivers wear them now

Pretty sure that was Jowett's old car (the reshelled version) that he bent at Oran Park. What a shame, hope it's repairable and both the boys get back out there soon...

Must be pretty clever lights, the ability to instantly recognise an issue on the track and be the first responders to the incident.

Oh and a one way audio communication system.
