Shitty ebay spec VN IP Racer.

Ok, This is a 1/2 assed Build thread on building an ebay Ghetto spec IP Racer. This will be the cheapest build in Motorsport, Dry sump and Valvetrain is the only area that has real money spent tho still cheap. These are L98 weak links.
Much of the interesting stuff like Drysump etc is at work so this is the shit sitting at home.
The Body has been De'Moo'd as it was Frisian Cow coloured, It will have a basic tidy and wrapped, Yes missing window is sorted.
Update as I can be stuffed.

Is Logbooked and most of whats needed is already inplace. Late this season to be back on the track.

rockers with trunion bearing upgrade is a good cost effective upgrade as opposed to the shaft mount rockers.

    interesting to see full specs.

Was about 150kg but will update cage etc.
just got a Cambered 9in from USA for very little, left side had pos camber but comes with new pin to make neg both sides.

Had much trouble with LS Rockers so did not want to cut costs there. Cam, Lifters, Pushrods,Gearset, Springs retainers and spring seats, Stem seals,Spare set retainers, Shaft mount rockers and conrods were only $2750 total from USA. Good Comp Cams parts.

Should be more of this type of IP car. Low cost, great fun

Would be great if there were a bunch of guys who had a un-official rule that no big bucks spent and race together towards the middle/back of the pack as happens in U2L in NSW. Guys in Eskys/Dattos with small budgets but have great fun!

Will follow with interest Steve, well done.

Heres the Diff and rear brakes.
    I have 4 Camber options. 0 -1.5 -1.7 -2.0
I have a spare housing and Axles, Spare brand new Hubs and spare Quartermaster camber drives and inner Axle seals.
    $1000AUD.
I always raced on Spools so have gone that way again but have LSD just incase. Through bolt Alloy center with 10 bolt pinion support and light weight 31 spline spool 3.25, 3.50 and 3.7 gears along with billet yoke with drive for the dual pump I got on IPRA Forum.
Total for everything above $1700. inc the Diff housings and brakes.

The Diff is the same width Flange to Flange as a VL so perfect for the VN as its on a VLT Diff now.

What class is the Mustang going to run Steve ?

BTW - What engine mounts did you use ? From memory you helped Mal build the VN originally ?
LSA for towing, APRA N15 for going...

The Mustang is Group A and running IP. Its going to stay over your way when sorted to race all the interesting rounds like Ray does.

VN mounts are just simple Castle kit. Im using a home made poly mount to replace the Factory Holden rubber mount tho. I helped Mal finish it from about 70%.
Engine will be finished in a bout a week or 2, Diff and new Brakes should be here a few weeks after that so we will upgrade the cage, Make the Watts link and wire the Motec plus plumb the Dry Sump, Diff and Gearbox coolers while I wait.
Should make the last couple rounds.

Excuse my lack of knowledge with live axles, but how do you set and change camber on them? I like how your idea of cheap and shitty includes dry sump

Cheap and Shitty with Drysump is achieved by hunting the net and getting a full Drysump kit for $950, Not much more that a very well built Wet Sump and Oil pump.
Cambered Diff? Heres a start for you. http://www.msfracingcomponents.com.a...dfullfloaters/

You can buy this stuff very cheap from NASCAR suppliers as I did. Just make sure you remember most are 5X5 stud pattern tho most can be drilled for our common 5x120 GM or 5x114.3 Ford etc. Mine are 5x120.

I brought 2 full diffs and a box of different Camber Pins like the pic, few different angles to play with some local Diffs.

I'm kind of building this car as a protest to show the failings of IP rules. I want to build this whole car for the cost of my LMT Transmission from Flywheel to wheel flanges. Looks like it will come in less. The VN will also Lap faster and for longer then my LMT car could.

    Many know why.

    so true.

Steve remember the rumors of how big $$$ was the box in the 31 WRX and how many times it broke 3rd gear. Still do not know if the engine going bang on the dyno being $40K is true or BS

40k is not true, Its much more than that. Some guys are running 80-100k engines, Fact.

Anyway, IP is now a V8 class, I still like the class so I have gone V8, Ashlys V8 Group A Mustang is days away from Australia now also. His engine would be about 80K. He had one of the biggest goes at LMT yet. Trouble is he is only a wage earner on about 120k per year so even with United Oil behind him and low cost labor the cost was beyond reach.
In Australia but he is looking at outright at a National level, Im looking at top 3 WA only.
To run Outright Nationally at all tracks is post 1/4 Million Dollar zone now. I think home drivers in SA is the last track a modest budget racer can win a National event. That maybe also over? Test will be years away till they next get the Nats event.
