    Hey Glenn
Following on from the other day I think the below quote will be useful for your setup, it was some advice from 2JZR31, I suspect he is onto it.

Quote Originally Posted by 2JZR31 View Post
The 2JZ has a big dead spot until 4000rpm when you use the stock ECU as it was tuned to run with the sequential turbos, and 4000rpm is when both turbos are online. However after that RPM, the tuning on a stock 2JZ ecu allows over 23psi and close to 500rwhp with 550cc injectors.

The 1JZ does not suffer from the low RPM flat spot since the turbos were not sequential. Your flat spot is just a big fucking turbo. The prob with the 1JZ ecu is, it will not like boost as much as the 2JZ ecu. You will get pinging sooner probably because the ignition timing just before fuel cut is more advanced than on a 2JZ. A fuel computer like a SAFC will do fuck all to help you. All it does is manipulate the map sensor values, so when you add fuel it retards timing, and lowers your boost cut down below 14psi.

Both the 2JZ and 1JZ will run at 14.7 afrs when there is no boost as you noticed. This is a good thing as it saves fuel and the extra heat will help spool the turbo anyway. The closed loop tuning is so good that you can fit 550cc injectors to a 2JZ and within a few minutes of driving AFRS will be back where they should be in closed loop (1JZ 380cc to 440cc is a walk in the park with the stock ECU).

When you boost it and go into open loop the oversized injectors will cause it to run very rich, the solution is of course to run more than the fuel cut boost of 15psi (with an FCD, or SAFC tuned to act like an FCD) to use up the fuel. In the case of a 2JZ with 550cc injectors this is about 23psi. Which is OK as the tuning of stock ECU and engine WILL handle it as has been proven by me and heaps of other people now (10.8 sec pass using dodgy tuning techniques and 90,000km of daily driving before the car was written off with zero engine probs) There will be a rich bog as it comes through the boost threshold but that passes almost instantly.

With the 1JZ there is no point going above 440cc injectors with MAP sensor manipulation (they are cheap from a 2JZ anyway) the reason is you will experience pinging around the boost level at which you can raise boost to while using an injector upgrade of this size. IE you will be limited by pinging, not fuel availability.

So I suggest fitting 440cc injectors from a 2JZ and fitting a simple FCD (which I can supply for PF rates, same as what sketchy uses). A SAFC will not help much it at all since the stock ECU can easily tune out the 440cc injectors in closed loop and you can use the extra fuel at high boost.

If you want more than this you will probably have to go a more powerful ECU tuning solution so you can safely run larger injectors and alter ignition timing. I know this about the 1JZ as we done a lot of testing with my brothers Soarer fitted with twin TD05 turbos using various forms of map sensor manipulation.

I scattered another engine on the dyno and this is why I stoped posting (had the shits and had to park the car in the shed for a few months) good news is that makes way for a 2jz bottom end! 1.5jz on the horizon and hopefully before powercruise!! that's the plan anyway me a MR jones want to bring our shitboxes up and fook around!

    cheers, Glenn.

About time I tried to revive a dead thread, have been through countless engines! (All blown up on the Dyno) Been dicked around with cops and rego! But I finally Have a running and ENGINEERED car! Rego all sorted in the ACT! and when I say running I mean it's on stands in the shed with a smoked gearbox but hey! I have rego!!

Gotta work out how to get pictures on here again to show some more tyre carnage!!

    Cheers, Glenn.

Good fun now with more cubes and way too much converter

And the engines last heaps longer now that the ECU isn't mysteriously pumping an extra 20 degrees timing into it lol

Pretty much as the old girl sits now.

    1.5JZ-GTE engine
    GT3582r turbo
    Steam pipe manifold
    ID2200cc injectors
    E85
    4800rpm stall converter with lockup
Only 13psi of boost (for now haha)

Getting a bit busy behind the glovebox!

    HALTECH

    PS2000 ECU

    WB1 wide band controller

TC2 2 Chanel thermal couple amp

TC4 4 Chanel thermal couple amp (for all 6 EGT probes)

Honeywell oil and fuel pressure sensors for engine protection and datalogging

Flex fuel sensor, so I don't need a laptop to change fuel!!

Cambus module to link it all together,

Just spent last night wiring in VSS vehicle speed sense for idle control, staged boost control and fun shit like 2step anti lag launch control haha looking forward to testing that!

Goal ATM is to drive up to sydney from Canberra run a 10 and drive home! That is what I want out of the car, a really quick genuine STREET CAR! I drive the thing to work as much as I can when its running, o don't want to to live in the shed forever. I'm just off to a shitty start!

And this is just a photo of it actually surviving on the Dyno like I thought it would NEVER be able to do!! haha

Thanks Eeyore speaking of cooler lay out, I want to run a bigger radiator (will have to chop the rad support some more, but I don't care about that) so trying to find something a little bigger but not massive... Good description hey! I'll throw some measurements up of what I have and if anyone has some ideas of something that will fit let me know

I'm also looking at making my life even harder buy converting the thermo fans back to a hydrolic setup BUT... the factory hydro / hydro water pumps are horrendously expensive so I have opted to try and use a 2jz-ge power steering pump that has the Reso as part of the pump and a hydrolic fan from a wide body v6 Camry, the drama in running into now is how to control the fan speed and on/off from the haltech (need some kind of hydrolic bypass valve) like the factory 1jz water pump has for the hydrolic fan without over over over complicating the system as I would like to keep it as simple as possible.

Also I would like to make some kind of expansion tank style cooling system like on a falcon because my radiator is a lot lower than my head/top neck so a self bleeding system would be awesome! So if anyone knows of someone that has done this with any success let me know!! Haha any help is appreciated

    Cheers, Glenn.
