C63 - what do they cost to own?

Have the opportunity to buy an 09 c63 with under 20k for late eighties.

Can use finance at 5% for it which makes that part cheap but just wanted to check that I'm not underestimating the ownership costs.

    I've budgeted:
    2k for tyres
    2k for servicing
    2.5k for rego and insurance
    3k for fuel
3k for when it fucks up
    10k depreciation

    These are per annum figures.

Realistic? Will do about 10k per year.

I do $100 a week in fuel for about 350kms.

The fuck up fund would not cover much on one of these, so best not break it

The rest looks good. Specs and price sound similar to mine, just do it

Rotors and pads are cheap for the non PP cars in the US - would just buy them there - hopefully this would come in within the 2k/year servicing - given the k's i'd be doing it shouldn't need a rotor/pad change more than once every 3 years.

Assuming finance of the full amount (say 90k) - if paying cash there is still the opportunity cost of not putting that money into the mortgage @ 5% so $375 a month (interest only, principal is handled in the depreciation)

$6k volvo runs 11.8's with ease.
13k V12 liberty ran 11.6's with ease and sounded better.

Suckers game that mercedes shit. Unless its a 500SLC with a giant fuckoff turbo.

Man id be actually looking into the rotors and pads, and finding out labor @ the workshop you'll be using (if youre not doing it yourself) -- and the real life service interval for them

My dad had a '09 or '10 E350 with cross drilled brakes (sport pack or whatever), he drives sedately, and had to get rotors & pads done in <10thou km's and it was worth ~$1600 to get them done.. I'd presume AMG shit would be double that

got told by friend of a mate of a cousin etc that the dealership will replace the rotor with the pads or something. going to an independant they'll simply machine the rotors like anyone else and costs a fraction of what the dealership charges.
    maybe someone can confirm

yea but driving the volvo around doesn't give the owner the warm feeling of faux superiorority that a c63 on finance does.

Don't follow when you say you're paying interest only and that the principle is handled in the depreciation? How much are your monthly repayments in total?

I don't need finance, what I'm saying is I've got the cash but if I put it into a car I'm not putting it into a mortgage, which is effectively a 5% opportunity cost.

If I buy it for 90k and sell it for 60k after 3 years I've lost 10k a year. If i'm not paying back any of a principal it is irrelevant, the 5% is purely the cost to hold the asset.

Seriously buy a G6ET and spend 5 Grand on Mods and you will chop the C63 and have to borrow $70,000 less.

I don't technically need to borrow anything, I have absolutely no interest in G6ET's and I already own an M135i so itd be a step backwards.

What I was expecting is owners of C63s who might have some real life understanding of the cost of maintaining one - I'm quite aware of what I can and can't afford.

I don't get these posts. Whenever someone talks about spending $80-$150k on a car, someone says you can spend 25% "and have the same thing"

hot tip: people looking at buying $80k Mercs/BMW/Porsches aren't interested in falcons, commodores and evos.

It is the commitment to the 30k loss over three years that scares me.

It's all relative, if you earn double that then its a huge amount of money. If you earn 10 times that, its quite reasonable.

Curious what your neighbors and people parked at the bays closer to the lift at work, call 'a step up' from an M135i, or a step down?

Not sure what the step down/up even means, if you have the money to throw at a 50-60k overpriced car compared to any other country...more (less?) power to you I suppose.
