New circuit for Adelaide (Tailem Bend)

Hope this hasn't been posted elsewhere.

Tailem Bend Motorsport Park has been bought by the Shahin group who apparently have big development plans...........

    http://www.carsales.com.au/news/2013...0yMCZObmU9MjA.

Seems like good news for SA Motorsport. Location isn't to everyone's liking but you can't please them all. For southern Adelaideians such as myself it should be as convenient if not more convenient to get to and given the complex is at the end of a freeway will be far less stressful than driving across town to get to as compared to AIR or Mallala (especially if towing a car to the track).
Daily - VF SV6. Former daily, now with more up on blocks - S15 200SX. Weekends - 149 EH Holden Special. Project - EH Premier. More schizo than ever!

amazing news, and with Shahin as the developer, you can almost bet your house it will be done. That group doesnt fuck around, if they say they're going to do something they do. They also spend a lot of time with clients and staff at PI with their Ferraris so im sure they'll get plenty of use out of it.

To the people who cry about the location, what a bunch of sooks. 99% of them probably have never taken a car onto the track or participated in motorsport so bah! did they want a racetrack in the CBD next to Adelaide Oval?

hopefully they cart a mountain of dirt there so the circuit has elevation changes, all the best circuits have large elevation changes in them

So that appears to be the reason the present tenants are finishing at the end of November....sounds promising.

This, although they would need many many mountains because Tailem is as flat as a tack being on the banks of the Murray.

Those tracks look epic! Looks & sounds pretty ambitious, but if they do actually build that track, I'm fucking going...

cannot wait for this! layout looks amazing and supposedly there's undulation too.

The media has reported that the GT circuit will be 7.2 km! Similar length to Spa.

It will be FIA Level 2 spec which is everything except for F1. Also has approval for Moto GP as well.

Yep, this will be epic. It is what SA motorsport has really been crying out for for decades.

As soon as this is up and running, Mallala will just be a thing of the past.

SOUTH Australia will be the “motorsport capital” of the nation after a $7.5 million investment in Tailem Bend’s SA Motorsport Park.

The Federal Government says the project will create 350 jobs during construction, and 25 jobs after.

The park is the vision of Peregrine Corporation director Sam Shahin and will include a hotel, accommodation and restaurants.

Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs said the Government was “committed to strengthening regions across Australia by investing in projects to build or upgrade vital infrastructure”.

Today Mr Briggs also announced $16.5 million to fix black spots in SA.
    http://www.speedcafe.com/2015/05/18/...lem-bend-race/

A deal is already in place to see the V8 Supercars Championship visit SA Motorsport Park by 2017, the circuit’s developer has revealed.
Sam Shahin, a director of the Peregrine Corporation that is behind the Tailem Bend project, has confirmed the extent of the memorandum of understanding held with V8 Supercars.
“We have a commitment, a signed commitment from V8 Supercars, to run a second V8 Supercar race in South Australia when this facility is finished,” Shahin told ABC Adelaide.
“So South Australia will host another V8 Supercar race at this motorsport park.”
The declaration coincides with an announcement that the Federal Government has pledged $7.5 million of funding, matching that of the South Australian State Government.
Adelaide’s famed Clipsal 500 V8 Supercars event is currently confirmed through to at least 2021.
SA has only twice previously held two ATCC/V8SC championship events in the same year; visiting Adelaide International Raceway twice in both 1976 and 1977.
On each occasion the second visit was an endurance event that doubled as an Australian Championship of Makes round.

While it's great that SA (and the rest of the country) is getting a new Motorsport facility, it looks to me (from the video) like it's going to be a pretty uninspiring track to drive on.
No elevation change & lots of long radius corners interjected by chicanes.

    I really hope I'm wrong...

    Construction can now commence
The last motorsport event was held at the (now old) site on Sunday.

This is the area that the drifters used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHuio0BGQtc (this is me competing in OzGym on Sunday).
The new site will have an area with a similar drifting / motorkhana layout.

If the Shahin's do pull off the complete plan (i would be kinda surprised if they do get it all done), itll be epic.
I would really like to be able to do enduro races around that full 7.1km circuit.

To give some idea of scale, the main straight is exactly 1km long.
The dark green contour lines are a 1m elevation change, so its not completely flat, but not hilly either.

Pretty sure the long 7km circuit has been shit-canned.

Edit: Last I heard this was with FIA for accreditation or whatever. They're going for grade 2. I think they had dreams of grade 1 but then realised how much it would cost.
