3 engines is fucking retarded when teams were already running out of motors well before end of season.
    If in doubt power out

Article is in German, so no idea how they came up with these numbers. I remember recently reading an article about Merc topping 1000hp??? Maybe not in race mode?
EDIT: It was 'almost' 1000hp https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13...000bhp-barrier
Author of article claims someone from within a team using GPS data shared that information. The numbers don't mean much as it's based on data from Mexico, where Renault ran the cars detuned.

Three engines is fully retired, but the rules were set a long time ago.

F1 is being held back by bureaucracy, well has been for quite some time. What a shame.

Got to lol at the agreement. Teams want lower costs, FiA takes an engine off them. Teams agree.

    2018 teams unhappy

    Never changes

Yep and the manufacturers have even stated that probably the main cost factor is the current level of reliability required combined with the complexity. For every engine they are burning up in car they are burning up heaps on the dyno trying to get the reliability sorted. So 3 in car and probably 30 on the dyno.

They did try to get it changed fot 2018 to stay at 4 but Ferrari voted it down.

Ferrari veto powers need to be fucked off.

The new owners should just tell them no more veto and no more special payments. If they don't like it they can get fucked. Sergio can threaten to leave all he wants but he will then go down in Ferrari history as the CEO who pulled Ferrari out of F1 his name will be mud amongst the Ferrari loyal.

Quite honestly I don't really keep track of what the rules are these days, but 3 engines per year is ridiculous.

I'm really dumbfounded at that! Simple logic says that amortising the cost of development across more units is sensible, ah fuck it, it's like the rest of the world. Common sense is just so yesterday.

If anyone is bored, someone on reddit translated an article about Honda 2017 engine development article. Kinda interesting, but very cool pictures.

    Fap. Thanks Shitbreak.

And echo the rest of the comments. Amazing they think the cost of actual engine parts to build more engines is more than the epic R&D to make a motor last 6-7 times longer and make power. Basic economics

    F1 Shit Talk Thread -

Considering the whole sport was based on the principle of pushing the boundaries of engineering and manufacture I can only presume they’re now building as many engines as they did in the 1 engine per race era, but running them in simulation to try and find the “magic” combination that makes power and lasts.

meh its all irrelevant until a cost cap comes in. if this was made more economical then they would just spend that money in another part of the team...

The stupid thing is that they have to build/buy more than 3 engines anyway. One of the teams last year mentioned this and said it was a pointless rule. Everyone copped penalties in one way or another, meaning they had to use much more parts than is allowed under the cap. The cost of developing engines to be ultra reliable with big HP would have to be close to the cost of extra engines.

Any further rumours as to who is going to get the second Williams seat? F1.com reckons it will be announced this month.

From that Honda article it would seem they deleted pnuematic valve springs...returned to coil springs?

Which of course would actually work for the revs they are using, and allows a lower centre of gravity ( less tall cylinder head)

Have heard the Sergey Sirotkin is pretty much a done deal...just waiting on the check from SMP to clear

Wouldn't have been my choice but from what I read Mr Stroll doesn't want his son getting smashed by his Team Mate

Also means not carrying a cylinder of compressed whatever gas they use which would be beneficial for packaging.

They know they cant be at the pointy end of the field anymore. Maybe theyre given up on performance for the moment, focusing on reliability and hoping for a couple points by attrition?

Ex RBR boys don’t seem to go far with Ferrari. Could be a gamble to see if he can perform in another environment

For Ferrari they don't care how many drivers they have on the books, they'll just dump them to Le Mans if they turn out to be shit. Like Luca Badoer at the 2009 European GP.
Might be a cheap method to cross check the likes of Max, Ricciardo and, Sainz.

Yeah the 3.5 years he had in F1, including a promotion to RBR, really hid his genuine ability. Damn Helmut Marko and his conspiracies!
