Doesn't sound right to me. Income insurance payouts don't stop you from returning to work. And there's no way an income insurance payout from a 2011 injury would have covered loss of F1 income in 2018 that he would then have to repay.

I would suspect an insurance policy for highly paid high risk sporting stars may be different than your ma and pa click on the internet to buy deal, and it is entirely plausible if it covered future/potential future earnings.

haven't seen it reported anywhere despite the year or so of speculation about his return either...
edit: I see Germany's Auto Motor und Sport made the story a couple of days ago. "would imply the reimbursement of a huge lifetime insurance payout Kubica received for being permanently unable to race in F1."

But he's already shown he's not unable to race in F1 anyhow...

Yeah I agree, but there may be technical differences between test and race, and he definitely is not being paid for these. Who knows. Possible, and plausible, but also wouldn't argue if someone said it's bull.

I reckon it would be a great story for him to return and hope he does.

Hes already been testing in F1 cars. If his insurance payout was subject to him being able to carry on with a motorsport career then he wouldnt even be testing, at least not so publicly.

He has also raced after the crash so a good point, unless it is F1-centric

This isn't like you at all hahaha

Autosport reporting that Brendon Hartley is in the mix to fill the second Toro Rosso seat for the US GP with a possibility of a drive for next year. That'd be cool to see after Red Bull dropped him a few years back. Maybe being mentored by Webber in WEC has made him a more attractive prospect. There's also the possibility of him doing Indycar next year with Chip Ganassi.

Christian Horner complains that the oil burning thing is wrecking F1's green credentials. Because you know, a couple of litres of oil across a race that uses 100kg of fuel is completely unacceptable.

Nope, absolutely nothing to do with the fact he doesn't currently have access to the technology.

Fuck off and start innovating again Christian, quit complaining just because other teams keep outsmarting you.

So that's confirmed now. Nothing he does with Porsche clashes with the rest of the races either.

Nice little story on Kubica rolling some sim nerds in 2004 and getting called out by said nerds for cheating haha.

    https://pretendracecars.net/2017/10/...he-triggering/

The Xbox 360 existed only in magazines. rFactor was over a year away from launch. And more than a decade before Twitch introduced the disastrous Formula E VISA Vegas eRace to unsuspecting Counter-Strike fans, there was the Warsaw Colin McRae Rally Tournament. Footage of the event does not exist, the personalities involved can not be found on YouTube showing off their practice sessions for thousands of hardcore admirers to study, and the game itself – Colin McRae Rally 2005 – had little in common with the franchise we now know it as today. It was both the best of times and the worst of times for the genre; sim racing was arguably in a golden age given the variety and overall quality of virtual auto racing titles coming from every direction, but the relative obscurity of PC gaming as a whole prevented objectively great driving games from attaining anything more than a niche following. You were either World of Warcraft, or you weren’t.

Yet despite massive advancements in multiplayer functionality, event organization, sim racing hardware, and the great leaps in technical prowess that we’ve seen across the gaming industry since 2005, in retrospect the Warsaw Tournament has taught us that we can always count on one variable to remain a constant; the sim racing community as a whole is extremely toxic.

    ...

Cool story. I wonder if that experience has anything to do with his desire to make that ill fated attempt at rallying.

Also check out Nicki Thiims YouTube channel. Bloke livestreams his races in iRacing and absolutely wrecks the competition while talking shit and not even fuelling the car properly.

Max has signed on with Red Bull to the end of 2020 now. Seems like a strange move given the power unit uncertainty.

Brundle, who is generally pretty switched on and in the know, strongly suggests that Dan will be at Mercedes in 2019.
Not sure what to think about a pairing with Lewis. As much as I’d love to see him serve it up to him like he did somewhat with Vettel in ‘14, I’m not sure it’s realistic. Surely more competitive than Bottas though.

Pretty big gamble for Max I reckon.

Somewhat with Vettel? Pretty sure his 2014 stats exceeded Vettel's in all if not most metrics.

Hmmm I'd rather Dan stay at Red Bull to be honest, him and Max make a good driver pairing. If only they the Renault donk was better.

So if Dans replacing Bottas-where to for him?

I figured there might’ve been extenuating circumstances that I couldn’t be bothered researching prior to posting, but let’s just forget the “somewhat” bit.

Yeah it won't kick in here until that Foxtel deal ends whenever that is. Which is a crying shame but they there's not much that can be done about that.
