Absolutely no reason cannot have 24 cars that are sustainable with a closer order.

Circa 90m/yr just for being in the series since 1950, allegedly as no official figures are ever released. Then the remaining prize money gets spread around after that. Bernie had it in for Manor after they missed 4 race starts in a row, the concord agreement only allowed for three allegedly.

Bernie is Bernie and you never know what could go on in his head. The agreement and Manor missing only made the sport look bad, not FOM or CVC just the sport which in turn feeds the aforementioned. Manor picking up the pieces and stringing together some good performances (for back of field team) has helped the sport as all you heard through the year was how Sauber was struggling big time and with FI taking the prize money distribution issues to the EU courts, Manor on the other hand just went about their business.

Ferrari almost several times a year threaten to pul out of F1 regardless of their 'historical retainer'. They have nothing else as massively invested to race in so need F1 as much as F1 need them. If I were Liberty I would challenge this heavily to keep a field of cars racing.

Ross Brawn's take on this very subject. 100% agree with him - there is a place for smaller teams but they should be given more backing.

To celebrate the demise of a team in the sport is ridiculous.

True, but go far enough and you might as well watch Indycar. Nobody gives a shit about Indy.

Indycar had F1 so rattled in the 90's that Bernie tricked Tony George into fucking it all up - not sure it will ever return to that, but it can be a good thing.

    I didn't ask for a spec series either - but a field of 24 spread over 1.5, 2 seconds?

^^Agreed^^ When you've got cars being lapped 15-20 laps into a 50+ lap race it is unbalanced. I don't have an issue with lapping as long as it is occuring in the 2nd half of the race .

Small underfunded teams have their place. Thats where larger, factory teams can send their junior drivers to get experience. Look at Ric, Alonso, Webber, etc.

I find it interesting that Formula E has now managed what Bernie has always wanted - ie all the teams to be manufacturer backed. It just shows that the entry/ongoing costs need to be reasonable and you'll find enough takers.

Thing with formula E is it was always going to attract manufacturers, if F1 went hybrid 3-4yrs earlier than it did, as in implementing more than just pushbutton KERS, we may have seen more involvement?

why do we want manufacturer backing anyway? it isnt necessary to a healthy series, and can sometimes be very detrimental (anyone remember the mass exodus at GFC time?)

it's not necessarily a bad thing for some to be involved, but it isnt the be all and end all for a good series either. the first priorities for f1 should be having the fastest cars on the planet and making the races exciting to watch. everything else should be incidental to those aims.

I think the category relies a little on 'technology going to road cars', alike a lot of categories. It's almost a badly worded sales pitch. Manufacturers would logically to some of the one eyed FOM be the saviours to all problems financially for teams and it's easy to see why.

However when you are handing over a large portion of business income to keep the guys involved interested then there is a problem. The sport can't sustainably survive without that, sponsorship solely can't keep a team going, so who aside from Red Bull has the image for a F1 team to invest in a team and survive? Or to me more on point get a return on their investment?

With testing starting Feb 27, I imagine everyone will be trying to launch as close to then as possible. Don't want anyone stealing ideas from the launch mockup.

Cyril is a dud, think that's most of the Issue.

Feel for the Hulk, French Ron had a lot of influence in the move

Really hope that Bottas finally delivers on the hype and proves competitive against Hamilton.
