Not the worlds renowned reputable source of info, but news.com/dailymail is reporting McHonda is going to be McMercedes from next year. Yet to be confirmed yet, nothing on Motorsport or usual sources but will be a big bombshell. Would keep Fred in the seat im sure, which I would hazard a guess thats what the intention would be, MB is a proven unit.

    Sauber to win 2018 WCC?

I knew the rumours were flying however what stopped them was the no notice of change by some date. I'm wrapt and hope to see mclaren fighting up front, have been a fan of the team from when Mika joined, pretty much when I started watching as a kid.

Pretty sad and disappointing news IMHO. F1 could have done with another strong manufacturer. I guess Honda had plenty of chances. So if the rumor are true, where does that leave Honda? Surely they won't be winning any championships with Sauber (even if they build a top notch engine).

Enter as a full works team or leave?

Probably same as BAR - throw resources into it leading towards a takeover.

Only the words from his mouth, but said it's pretty much a done deal, it's just a case of when McLaren stop using the Honda engine, could be in the next few months (highly unlikely, but never know), this year or next year.

The Sauber-Honda deal included gearbox and rear suspension supplied by McLaren, so McLaren will continue to supply those until Sauber can sort out their own setup, apparently that'll take about 18 months.

Or leave the sport, which I reckon is more likely. Doubt Honda would commit the required resources for a full works entry. And McLaren seam to be the only team that could bring a WCC.

    From the James Allison article

They owe McLaren for the failures of the past three years, so a temporary separation in 2018, with Honda continuing to fund the McLaren team and white label Mercedes engines, until being reunited again in 2019 would make business sense on all sides.
Hope its just a one year break. A McLaren-Honda WCC in the future would be unreal.

That's what happens when you let the bean counters try run a team. In saying that she has had a good connection with Peter for a number of years so was put in the position.

If Honda leaves Formula 1 without a title this time around, that must come close to ending any Jap involvement for a long long time/forever.

    That is pretty sad.

Re Monisha - we have heard the bad, but I have no doubt she busted her ass to save the team when it was in dire straights too.

Several years of keeping it afloat and then finding a buyer can't be unnoticed.

she did some nasty shit with double booking drivers and whatnot though, and at the end of the day the team has successively got worse and worse in performance under her watch.

that still falls on her, "saving" the team or no

I'm sad to see her go, Sauber have always had my respect, the cards have never really fallen their way. But Peter had the fortitude to do it the best way he saw fit, Monisha, as Peters' chosen successor therefore has my admiration and I find it sad that this link to Peter is broken.

I reflect on old things, but things that I recollect of Sauber. Building a monumental wind tunnel, the rules now limit it's use.....Signing Kimi, and losing Red Bull sponsorship.....Paying Jordan to take on Michael Schumacher....

Peter did things for the right reasons but didn't always gain the maximum benefit from them, but in his stoic swiss way he continued doing his best. Who else would have bought back Sauber from BMW?

Losing the manufacturer cash and people that went along with it wouldn't be very conductive to staying at the pointy end. The signing of 5 drivers thing was farcical though.
