    Fuck I hope not.

They should be leading the mid field comfortably.

Renault was the worlds largest car maker by sales in 2018, they’re not there to fuck spiders, but there’s also no sense in destroying testing time by sticking a car into a wall or the kitty litter trying to make the hype of “fastest in test”
Or they're just off the pace, like they have been since the rules changed.

I’m not saying they will be “on the pace” in Melbourne, just that based on the first two days of preseason testing there’s no reason to assume any teams actual race pace.

I mean by the current measure Williams won’t front a car to Melbourne because the data we get from testing says “no Williams car”

Tbh their pace isn’t the concern, more the laps.

In saying that Hulk ran a race simulation yesterday and I think Renault are one of the first teams to do so. That is the best indication of pace and reliability so far.

That’s like saying Mercedes are off the pace, it’s testing and it means nothing...

Yep - obviously including heavy trucks changes things still toward I think VW but yeah the Alliance is number one on cars.

Read a few days ago that it’s meant to be the current spec, something to do with fuel sponsors and comparing benefits of different fuels etc as well as general performance benchmarking.

Autosport have been doing a daily podcast talking to Gerry Anderson about the testing - it's pretty interesting. And he seems to think the Merc performance really isn't all that good, even considering fuel loads, etc. All with the caveat that testing is only testing.

Anyone want a free unopened Medium (?) Williams Martini shirt?

If you're in the Sydney CBD during the week in the next month, its yours.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but basing it on a week of practise seems a bit dangerous. MB never seem to shine at the practise and everyone writes them off.

Seeing as the cars have actually changed fuck all in the scheme of things, you'd have to be a Muppet to think Merc are on the back foot.

Couldn’t agree more. MB don’t try to win the testing championship, year after year since taking over from brawn have shown this.
