    mig gas prices

What are you guys paying for mig bottle hire and refills? Got a quote from agas who are an air liquide supplier, ARCAL 5 e size is $171 per year rental and $113 refill. Should I shop around some more?

    $0 Rent, $60 refill.

Don't go directly to BOC or Air Liquide. Find a small welding shop that does gas, slip the guy some cash.

$250 for a 6kg co2 cylinder and $30 for a co2 refill... Think its slightly less gas volume than an e size argon

    I wish
No issues with Ar/CO2 MIG gas and I've got a work supplied oxy set, getting pure Argon seems to be more of a drama - dont know anyone with one at their workplace nor have I found a spare bottle. Used to know a bloke at BOC who would do you a 'day' rental and jut swap the tags. I'm told someone blew up an ATM using a set he handled and that was the end of that.

Know a few people who just decant a G sized mig bottle into their commandeered E/D sized bottle. Never get a full fill but for the weekend warrior, heaps. Not a bad idea, most fabrication business have 6 of the things ready to go, if one is half empty it never gets noticed lol

Cheers blokes. Waiting on another quote from supagas, also saw on eBay a guy does what looks like C size bottles for $220 full, and then $70 for a refill which includes freight. C size looks pretty small though.

matt, is it $15 per month, based on 6 or 12 months? Or can you just rent it for a month?

Didn't specify a term, so I'm going to guess you can rent it for a month?

Tell them the Air liqude/Elgas/Coregas rep came around and offered cheaper gas refills
Couldnt get the rental down but got the refill cheaper.

BOC are not interested nor give two fucks about gas sales and rentals to small business and consumers, all those cunts want to do is sell bulk gasses and supply contracts.

Got quote back from a speedgas outlet:

$485 for an E of 5/2 delivered, and the refill is $173. So does about $310 for an empty E cylinder sound right?

    Thoughts on going this way???

    http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/O0183

Apparently the 2.2kg ones are a new bigger size

Wonder what the break even point is for going from these to buying/renting. The other advantage (for me at least) is the size/mobility of the smaller setup

Depending on what they charge for re-fills and how often you use it, looks to be more expensive.

To rent mine for a year with 3 fills is $360,
To buy that and fill it 3 times assuming the fill cost is double its $720 for the first year and $360 every year after
Same money after the first but you own the bottle, just hope they never go broke.

Would rather have the $412 in my pocket than be stuck with a bottle I may not be able to get filled down the track.

No rhyme or reason to prices! I've seen BOC G argon for $90, coregas $70, Supagas $270!! for small(er) users down here and half the lowest figure for larger users, rentals from $10 to $40 pm. Still trying to work out an advantage to buying unless you can eek out a bottle for several years.

I just bought a D of Argon from speedgas for $319. Guy said it should be enough for a 5kg spool. That's a few years for me!

NFI what it costs, but it cant be to bad cause he hasn't said anything, though did mention he paid $200 for bottle rental the other week, might have been a hint.

A have a friend Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabaduh who bought an old TIG welder with a G bottle of Argon attached. The G bottle is stamped BOC and has an expiry of 1990-something. It doesn't have a tag or anything. Would my "friend" be stuck when it runs out? I wonder if there is anyone out there who would refill it or someone who might clean, pressure test it and recertify it?

I'd go E or E2. They have around 3x the gas of the D. I found the D's didn't last long, the E's last ages
