to be fair the new (red) shell has been fairly reliable. i mean it's still worse than alfa-romeo levels of reliability, but it has had way way way less problems than i experienced with the old (green/black) chassis lol

an XX days from last breakdown sign would be piss funny tho

After I posted this the vented fuel cap on the Mini spewed petrol down the side of the car and it almost caught fire.

We should arrange a group buy.

    Picture time!

Did putty road on Saturday. Was an awesome run. Great weather and fuckall traffic. Also got to give the car a good and proper shakedown before nationals. Everything seems in order. There are a few bits in the low rpm area of the accel pump map which need some tweaking but it's all just minor improvements now. Bring on toyota nationals!

Also the engine builder came around yesterday and picked up the bottom end to start the machine work. Fuck yeah!

Well I had a great time at nationals, the car was faultless all weekend. I won top RWD in the motorkhana, and came third overall! Fucking stoked with that!

1/8th mile drags were pretty shithouse as expected. Got a 10.47 as my best time lol. Still, I had heaps of fun!

I will require boost next year. The silvertop sounds nice but seriously, it is SO slow... need to finish this bloody 9A already

    9A build update!

Block machining is progressing, oil pump gallery has been ported and girdle is being finished up. The engine builder has recommended that I do not run oil squirters. He isn't comfortable with bleeding pressure off the mains to feed the oil squirters considering the loads I will be imposing on the bottom end.

    Engine in current state

9AGTE update: Crankshaft is currently in Victoria getting some superfinishing done to it. I've handed my pistons over to the engine builder and he is now boring the block to suit.

Went to Wakefield last Friday. Had a good amount of fun out there. The day itself had clear skies but due to heavy rains the day before, parts of the track were wet all day. Best time I did all day was a 1:18 which is well off the pace, mostly due to the old dead semis and lots of water on turn 2 and 10. Then again it was also the first time I've had an adub on the track since Jan 2012, so i cant entirely blame the weather :P

If anyone wanted to know how little brake clearance I have... here you go :P

My alternator tensioner making a bid for freedom, thankfully it decided to fall off just as i came into the pits and not on the track

Hammo's seat could not cope with the Gs

Brendan's R888s have finally run out of rubber hahaha (he graciously allowed me to use them for the day as I havent got track wheels or tyres atm)

Elfin MS8! A whole bunch of awesome cars turned up in the arvo in anticipation for the supersprint on the next day

Finally got some use out of my datalogger too!

How did hammo's brakes go? always wondered if the stock ma61 brakes are any good, my ma61 had skyline brakes with AR1M's on there and i wasnt completely happy with them.

Rob - Hammos brakes were shiiiiite haha. Although they weren't great to start with (rotors were already warped before the day). He reckoned they were ok for 5 laps and then the pedal would go soft. We put some of my better brake fluid in but by then the rotors were well and truly warped and the pads were chipboard. They just aren't big enough to cope with the heat generated by a car with that much weight

TCR - yeah DL1 and a Dash2. Top recorded speed on the straight was 152kmh :/ topped 1G under braking though!

Blowing an ignition lead when you are 75km from home at 11pm is not fun. On the other hand - I suddenly have a lot of motivation to convert the 20v to coil on plug this weekend!

and even with only 0.5mm oversize there is fuckall meat left between the bores. Hence all the shit I'm doing to try keep the cunt together when i cram 30psi down its throat

Gee, no wonder they have a bit of a reputation for a floppy block.

If you pick up a stripped down block you soon see there is not much metal in them. Amazing motors really.
    Mmmmmmmmm beer.

To be fair only the very early 3 rib motors are the ones with the rep for being floppy. The later motors are very stout till you start pushing big boost into them or overbore them too far. Like I said the only reason I am a bit worried is due to wanting to push 30+psi into mine, which isn't an every day occurance for most people :P Stock bore and stock GZE pistons can still see you pushing 200-250kw at the wheels reliably all day every day. Which isnt bad at all for a 1.6L first released in 1983

Of course if it had the xbox huge cylinder walls like a cossie YB has then that would make me much happier, but I'll just deal with it
