same or very similar caliper, wouldnt consider them an upgrade.
Plenty of aftermarket options for brakes, depends on the budget I guess.

I bought this to replace my Evo 8. I had a look and the evo disks are slightly larger and thicker and the calipers have larger pistons.

evo had braided lines and A1RM pads which were pretty good cold.

GTR brakes don't feel as strong, probably because the car is a fair bit heavier and lines are stock. the pads on it are terrible when cold. don't know what they are but they've given me a few brown pants moments on the highway when they haven't been used for a while.

Im pretty sure a brake upgrade is on the cards because the way I drove the evo I had black smoke coming off the pads in the pits, so if the GTR ones aren't as good it'll piss me off.

its a couple of hundred KG heavier and depending on your old evo's spec be faster in a straight line too so best to look at something in the 355mm range with 6pots
Greddy, Alcon, AP etc stuff is all off the shelf

Adding the oil drainback on the back of the head was a marginal improvement in returning oil to the sump, when you really think about, any blow by gasses are fighting the keep the oil from flowing back to the sump, if you place the return below the level of the oil in the pan the it cannot flow down freely either.

Something to look at for a brake upgrade is the Yum Cha special, Ksport,D2 etc 8 pot 35x mm kits. Few people ive spoken to who say they are an upgrade over both the Evo and Gtr stuff. Chisholm has had experience with both Evo brembos and the Ksports at Wakefield and much prefers the Ksports. Ive also had experience with both sets and I prefer the feel of the Ksports on the street, however ive never used them on a track.

Just another option to throw out there for you.

if you need some ideas for a breather setup i have been testing them for years and finally have one that works well without the need for the oil restrictor

looks abit ugly but does the job

Evo brembos are larger all round (physically and pistons) and will accept a larger rotor.

so after 2 days, this thing is WAY to loud.. which i knew. and also has a lumpy idle due to the cams. i'm getting the "you're a wanker" hand signal from people in traffic... you hear it coming about a minute before i actually arrive.

so first mod will be reinstalling the exhaust control valve that prev owner took out for the sake of 30hp and after much googling today, will order a HKS super turbo exhaust. i prefer the oval look to cannons, its about 3.3 inches and apparently good for 600hp, plus it should shut it up. just need to confirm dumps puts the cat outlet flange are in the same place as stock.

looking at about 1200 delivered from japan, would you guys recommend that or going to a local exhaust shop and butchering my existing exhaust?

I've got that exhaust on my evo. Its been on the car for 12+ years and still going strong. Very quiet too.

they had them marked as 'sold only in japan' on the site, but were able to ship one to Australia 18 months ago when I was looking at stageas, and they had stock. They weren't cheap though (the pro one was astronomical)

    EDIT: details here:
    http://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/produc...cam/index.html

no idea if they have stock anymore though

cheaper and easier to build an RB30 bottom end or a r26 stroker out to 2.9L for similiar results in relation to more low end grunt? Dont get me wrong a Vcam setup is no doubt awesome but the investment is significant, both purchase and install.

you don't get the benefits of the variable valve timing then though

it doesn't look that hard to install, it's just a new cam some small fixtures an oil line and timing gear. oh and the computer

EDIT: nengun performance still has one according to their site! - It's sorta borderline for the price I think

I must be honest I dont know anyone personally that has had one installed. I always assumed it'd be around 10K installed, tuned etc.

I've watched the video's and its pretty impressive the difference it makes but even at 8k all up is it worth it for for the average GTR owner? However as its not my money go ahead
    RB26......................Again

Solid purchase... looks quite well setup already as far as a street car goes. Was Looking at purchasing one a few years ago, but was scared away at rebuild costs and figured that the Evo would be a much cheaper proposition for the circuit.

I gather that V-cam in the GTR is similar to Mivec in the Evo? Surely a stroker would be the better option than v-cam, not only for the additional response, but increase in torque. I fitted a built 2.0L Mivec engine in the Evo, and although it responds quite well with a big turbo, small capacity and revs like a champ (and has a wide powerband), it really lacks the low down torque. Fact of the matter is, I could have built a stroker for much less. Too many head fucks in the swap.

    Look forward to updates.

finally got all the reciepts and paperwork last night, few things i missed such as Nismo Rear 1.5way mechanical LSD, camber adjustment arms, swaybars, Trust Oil Pump, HKS separated dump pipes, ported head...

and this dyno graph, from when it was registered in Vic:

I'm pretty sure that must have been RWD because thats too much oomph in 4WD for the GT2560s on 21psi.. still, not bad!
