Yep thanks, I talked to him earlier today. ITS60S is going to pop down the road to have a look at it and let me know.
It could end up a pretty cheap buy, with the sale of the Datto engine.

    I say do it.

But double your expected budget and don't expect your dad to be overly excited by it all.

I'm doing a similar thing for a similar reason atm and that's kinda how it's working out.

Still it's a scratch I've needed to itch as I imagine this is for you

ITS60S has checked the car and it's not too bad. He's sending me a heap of photos of it that show where the rust is, etc.
We've got a few good metalworking machines here so repairing the various rusty areas is quite possible.

One of the problems with buying that car is that it has to come with Nissan V6 of some sort + gearbox that I really don't want or need. I might have to ask for a bit of a favour from someone down that way if they could store it for me until I can sell them. They'd be priced cheap to get rid of them ASAP.
The tyres on the trailer are not so good so I'd have to change all four before heading back home. Also check the wheel bearings, etc.

A bit more of a search and as it turns our Rare Spares have a heap of parts that will help a lot. Stuff like brand-new tail lights. http://www.rarespares.net.au/Priceli...Cortina&car=1B

    This may well happen!

i could be somewhat interested in the trailer if it isn't rooted. if the price was right (ie extremely cheap)

There was a shop near me who specialises in early compact ford performance builds (escorts, cortinas etc....) they've moved recently but had bucket loads of early girl parts and built nostalgic track and road racers.
It wouldnt be hard for me to track them down wherever they've moved, so if you're chasing any more specific parts let me know and I'll try find them over this side of the country.

Had a few random guys over east source parts for me and my build so only fair I do the same for who I can.
Seen the pictures of that Cortina aroud the forum and wondered if it had a story to go with it!

If it goes ahead, the plan would be to keep the trailer as it'd be needed to drag the car around. But certainly noted if that doesn't happen mate.

Cool! The Sydney car has (most of?) the parts for a rack conversion for the steering, but to keep it simple and more original I may well put the recirculating ball box back in, and in that case I'd be needing someone like you mention.

Had a talk with Rz about it and decided not to go with that car above. Too much work to get it back to being a reasonable thing before starting to mod it.
Just gonna have to spend more money to get a better one, then go from there.

Always better to pay for a good body than go cheap and end up down a rabbit hole. You DONT need the stess! I found out the hard way back on my old lc torry. Old cars of that age can hide stress and pain that you dead set dont need. Do it once, do it right!

Ps My dad and I found a great deal of joy over our love of cars. He still has a Lc xu1. I dont. All over a poor/rooted body and lack of 10/15k to fix it. Dont go cheap!

Why not involve your dad in the build? It would have been something that he would have enjoyed/been passionate about doing in the day, and he still would. I know a surprise is cool. But it can be built the way he would like now. And he can be part of the journey.
Ex girlfriends dad had old mk1 cortina race cars. But in Perth..

You could say something like- what do you think about building a cortina replica? See what the reaction is.

Missed out on a good one near Melbourne through ebay. Had a lot of good bits in it and no rust, but the guy wants $13,500 for it.
    Fucking gutted.

Turns out the shop I mentioned just moved into a bigger workshop 2 doors down from where they were and didn't have signage up until a couple days ago. E.R.R Motorsport, Gillam Drive, Kelmscott WA if you wana google them. I can go in there and ask about any good mk1's if you'd like. Offers there, they're only 2mins from my house.

Did you consider widening your search area?

    For example:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1965-Corti...item4d2364a107

Price of car +$2000 shipping +$2000 fees

    Edit: that particular one lhd

Well it's either that or a rusty shitter that I'm not going to get finished in time.
    Budget is blown already.
