there are quiet a few escort/small ford heads in Canberra i have bought a fair bit a gear from guys down there years ago ,go to that classic ford forum and put a call out.
Im on the hume southern highlands if you need to park the car in my shed to work on it on the way back north.
Ive got a few bits and peices from my escort days,my brother has the MK1 63 ,240 around the corner you shouldve bought....... he has most my engine spares and shit from memory.
I might end up buying that actually.
any more pics of the corty?

I'd join another forum but I've only got my phone with me, it's a shit of a thing.
I've got more photos but I can't attach them with the phone either. I'd like to try using the Escort diff first to see how it goes.

Axle is back in, locking sleeve has a couple of MIG tacks. But now the calliper piston won't retract.

Calliper off the car and onto the bench, winding the piston back in by hand.... And multi grips.

It is not Canberra but most Sydney people if they really need sonething go and see Brian Gelding at Small Ford Spares Minto (11 Lincoln St). Not far off the M5 either. He is not cheap but he has a lot of stuff there and will prob have the diff.  Ph 02 96035333.

Maybe you should buy a falcon and a car float

I am glad you are not driving in the dark now. Night driving is dangerous in Australia, what with all our nocturnal animals.

Is that cheaper than trucking it back?

It could turn out to be quite the journey if you break down every 50 km or so? What about piggy backing it on some other car. (just joking)

1,551km to go now and counting.

Yeah gear lever is common and you can drive it with some creative shifting

I've got a spare gear stick in the boot so I'll try that tomorrow. I found that I can still shift greats with the original stick but it's really shitty and hard to do.
So the plan now is that if I can get it fixed and go again tomorrow I'll go up to Canberra, if that goes okay then I'll keep going but if there's any more problems I'll get it trucked from there.
Apparently there's a company there called Custom Transport or something, can someone please find their phone number and text it to me?

Can't find anything about a Custom Transport company, but can ask on the local car buy and sell group if anyone knows a company that can do the journey if need be. Where's it got to go, Gold Coast?

Nooo don't put it on a truck. This is an epic story in the making. The two of you are bonding.
Plus by the time you hit Newcastle the Corty will be practically brand new from all the parts you'll have to replace. Should be smooth sailing from there.

Way better story than PF717. And at the end it's getting a V8!

Yeah, keep the road trip going mate. I'm less than 10 minutes off the M7 if you need somewhere to crash in Sydney...
When you go back out there, i want you to hit the pace car....
