    IS200 - Killdeath edition

With the recent flourish of owners embracing their shame and posting about their Lexus IS's. I thought I should put a short blurb up about mine.

Ive had it for about 7 years now. Originally bought with a basic engine conversion in it, which mostly fell apart or died within months. I think the only thing that remains from that driveline would be a block and head casting.

What you see is the result of 6 years of help from some great mates - and me knowing just enough to be dangerous.
We built it to be fun and kind of good at most things. Ive dragged it and circuit bashed it, motorkhanas and even static shows.

Its won TOP TOYOTA at the toyota nats 4 times, which is an accumulation of scores across show, motorkhana and drags. You gotta do well in all 3 to be competitive.

Today it rolled off the dyno at CHE following its final engine tune and made 470rwkw, thanks to Dale for getting it sorted!

Polished engine distracts punters from the paint

Does good skids - this was with 100rwkw less than now.

This is all the crap I packed into it for the Nats one year - no trailer queen!

Rough Specs - the detailed list would be pages long, ask if you want to know more.

    Lexus IS200
    2jzgte
Quality engine build by JMR 9.5:1 comp
Reco Stock head with GSC S1 cams
    Sound Performance SP67BB turbo
Haltech PS2000 ECU with digital wideband and flex fuel
    Shitloads of small custom details

    Driveline
    Tremec TR6060
OS Giken twin plate re engineered by Jim Berry
    Custom or frankenstein everything else.

    Big Brakes
    Lots of aftermarket suspension
    Custom leather interior
    Track spec paint

I love it AND I hate it - anyone who has done engine conversions will understand - lol

I could but I don't. Mainly because I have another cruiser and have to drive too far to get ethanol here. That's the only PITA.
Plus it attracts a lot of attention despite being sleepy on the outside. There is no disguising the engine note or volume.

I should add "killdeath" is no exaggeration - this thing seriously hates on its Rsr tyres like nothing else - and being so short wheelbase, loves to rotate.

This topped out a big number at Temora one year didn't it?

470 is spastic power, love it. Is that on ethanol?

In for any and all updates.

Thanks guys, I'll get some more pics and details up over the next few days.

It did do Temora, ran 22.01 @ 264kmh back when the engine was stock on BP ultimate (same turbo).

It's on ethanol now, has another 100 rwkw and a 6 speed box.

I'd like to think it would give 290 a nudge, but I won't be finding out. It's pretty clear Toyota never intended this thing to do 180 mph.
Aero wise it is a nightmare at that speed and my will to live / talent ratio is strong.

470rwkw. Fark. Thanks for destroying any idea of building a cool, quick IS of my own LOL!

Have you got any photos of the fitting of the gearbox and the tailshaft arrangement with the TR6060? What clutch master are you running?

This is obviously assuming all your AUX outputs are doing something. Ie idle control, and the other does water spray, and the other updates your Instagram automatically etc.

I have hundreds of pics of every mod. I'll try to address one area at a time. Starting with the gearbox setup I spose - that would probably be the most exotic part of the whole build.

It has a wildwood remote reservoir clutch master and an aftermarket billet slave.

Eh I've done 290 in a Cressida, don't be weak.

    Awesome awesome build though.

Lol - 270 was like telekinetic steering. I just had to think it through the timing marks. Not the most reassuring sensation to feel like any steering input would result in a flat spin. With no cage that's basically a death sentence.

If I had time or money to do some aero work and cage then maybe.

    Until then 400m will do.

same family of cars, sort of? sticking big low profile rubber in front combined with too much lowering throws them into the yucky zone, im keen to go back the other way and breath a bit easier.

Yeah - it was pretty 'slammed' at that time. Front arms probably beyond horizontal.

It's going to heasemans very soon for an alignment and corner weighting at basically stock height or close to it. Everything just works better there.

My old a70 supra was awesome at speed. Same as my mates one too. Factory aero made the car feel so planted, one handed waving to the cameras at 170mph.

Wish I could get the IS to feel the same.

Some kind of random pics from the gearbox conversion.

This is the adapter plate we had made for the tr6060 to Toyota UZ (j1?) auto bell housing. JMR come up with the goods on this one. There was a few options out there including drawings on the net but we decided to manufacture a few for ourselves. It wasn't as cheap as it could have been, but the result is better than anything on the market. Jase from JMR drew it up and specced all the tooling etc, it has some nice smaller details which should ensure it will never let us down.

Adapter to the big uni's on the custom tail shaft

The clutch was an OS Giken TS2CD that had been in the car for years. Last outing it had slipped (1st pass on a brand new rebuild) and really annoyed the shit out of me. When the last engine was built we sent the rotating assembly including balancer and clutch to be balanced. The dickhead balanced it by taking a grinder to my clutch hat. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but of course as soon as it all got hot it flexed and the clutch would not hold.

So I sent it to Jim Berry for the "Full Monty" treatment. He sourced me a new hat, and basically re engineered the clutch. I sent away a sprung full face twin plate, and got back unsprung, 4 puck setup with double the clamp (and the same pedal feel).
Pretty happy with this so far.

I searched around a lot to find a shifter option that would allow me to adjust where the shifter came up through the floor. Late model Mustangs use this box and the shifter arrangement looked as though we could adjust the arms to make it suit. I got an aftermarket MGW shifter from a gt500 mustang, moddified to suit the required length. The arms are really only a 'proof of concept' - the real ones will be made up in the next batch of CNC stuff we order.

Many people had told me the factory concentric slave on these things will fail badly with a decent clutch on it. So I got one of these. It has a billet piston in it, rather than the plastic commodore one.
Billet clutch slave - from Mal Wood.

I missed this. Some good info in here, thanks!

The adapter for the tailshaft - it looks like you are using the factory output flange that would normally have a rubber coupling attached in a Commodore?
