spa to the ring is only a few hours.

Takes you pretty close to Chimay too
.... because every driver experiences the destructive potential of the effortless surge of power available through the smallest of body movements.

    It'd be an awesome drive

I've been itching to do an alpine pass drive the last few summers. I've got 2 weeks off, so could maybe actually do it this year. *looks at unfinished lotus*

RSR Nurburg & Rent4Ring were both fantastic to deal with for me. I got stitched up by RentRaceCar so couldn't recommend them, but others have had OK experiences.

At RSR I was briefed & had knock off beers with Ron Simons while listening to him describe driving the Ring in a Ferrari FXX while Pagani broke the record in the Zonda R 500m from us. Rent4Ring I got a briefing from Dale Lomas, did my laps then punched beers at Pistenklause. The place really is Mecca for car guys.

I can't wait til my daughter is a bit older so I can organise a trip to show her all the beautiful castles in the Eifel mountains, which are coincidentally very close to the track

    Cliffs?
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Took my booking (I guess the best part of a year out?), then cancelled it 2 weeks out because they had a big group come through at the last minute.

RSR found me a Clio Cup at short notice, they were legends.

Ok, I have done some research to find some options. Racers retreat offer accomodation and they have track prepped 3 series BMW's for rent. 4 laps is 400 euro. $650 roughly. And they do deals for more laps, or full day hire.

Just got a response from need4ring

half day 6 laps on the 12th Aug and 4 laps 2h on the 13th Aug in their 328i = 549€ + 399€. price includes lap tickets and first tank of fuel

probably gonna stay at their bnb thing too for the 11/12/13th.

Plenty of fun to be had there. Last car I drove at the Ring was a very similar spec caged E36 325i. Did 18 laps in a day and had a ball.

Farken jeeeesuss. That went 0-100 real quick. Watch to the end, old mate who was ejected from the E36 screaming is pretty chilling.

No cries could be even worse.
Still have not booked flights or anything. Will have to get onto it pretty soon. But looks like we are buying the unit in North Italy. It comes with an option of 1,2 or 3 garages. Now if only I can find the right car to put in that garage.

A GT3 dropped it's coolant - I wonder if it suffered the coolant spigot failure? (While everyone screeches about IMS on 996s etc, no-one seems to utter a peep about the coolant spigots that pop out of the GT3 and Turbo motors).

Time to start looking into this again. We booked tickets to Venice flying in on the 23rd of August. Staying in Italy for most of the time for a month. I looked up track days at the ring. It costs about $1200 or so just for the entry fee, plus the cost to hire a car and fuel. Spa is around the same cost. So might just do the tourist days again at the ring, and save some money to do Spa.

I'm doing an evening session in June, I'm renting an E36 325i from Ringfreaks. Most places have budget options that are quite tame.. this particular car isn't too quick in a straight line (probably for the best) but is a VLN car and has no ABS, no brake booster, semis, rollcage etc. Looks fun!

If you’ve never been to Spa or the Ring I wouldn’t sweat the track days, you’re mind will be blown enough just doing the touristfahrten, even if it’s busy

I should think saving the track days for when you’ve got plenty of laps under the belt would be better

Nah I'm doing Touristenfahrten, 5 laps. Hopefully it's not that busy, since it's a weekday evening. I'd rather do a full track day, but I had to work within my holiday schedule and they turn out to be an expensive exercise anyway.

$1250 plus car rental and fuel is getting pricey for a track day. One lap at the ring is about the same as a session here anyway. The rhd Clio looks OK from ringfreaks.

I'm pretty sure I'm renting this car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gql5-jjiEqs

I can manage no ABS.. I'm only worried about the unassisted brakes (only car I've driven without is a formula ford which weighs fuck-all)

You'll be fine. The only time you will notice there is no booster is the first time you use the brakes trundling around.

Out on the track you won't notice, and you should get a lot better feel through the pedal if what the brakes are doing.

we did a track day for the opposite reason, far less cars, full straight, flags, like minded people in track oriented cars.

i figured if i was going half way across the world i dont want it stuffed up by a guy in a transit dropping oil everywhere after he
hit the fence (instead it was mclarens and 911s)

I started looking into cars to buy. I searched for rhd cars, and there are plenty. Mostly Jap imports I would say. I need it to be more reliable than fast, there are some WRX's for around $7-$8000au that look like they could do the job. Not sure if it is any harder for rego or insurance with RHD cars. Obviously I have looked at MX5's, but would prefer a 4 seater. I found a Civic that might be the way to go.

I fly in on the 23rd. Probably go around the end of the month, depends on if I find a car or rent one.
