Indeed they are. Doesn't help the weight or handling, but they ride beautifully as a result.

So's a Benz Grosser compared to some o' the cool stuff people in this thread are driving.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

An XJS is not something most would think of when considering a "land yacht". A Mark X, maybe.

Smaller, and slower, than my wifes car. Get out of the thread son.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Thread is for PF cunts to post up their own large cool vehicles, not so much for posting up normal sized ugly pommie sports cars you might want to own one day if you smoke too much crack

I always liked the Continental Mk II. Pretty understated for a yank barge from the period.

Usual stuff - check for rust, rust and more rust. A good body does not mean you get a good frame. Of course, you can repair one, or both, but big parts like that are hard to come by in Australia, and not all that easy even in the US.

With a 66, you'll get the FE 390 motor, C6 box and 9" rear end. Mechanical stuff is easy to source locally, so I'd worry less about that side of things unless it's leaking like a sieve. If the car is an Aussie RHD one make sure the exhaust manifolds are in good nick and not cracked; they're basically impossible to find. Also headers built to fit LHD models won't clear the RHD steering box, so keep that in mind if planning upgrades - you'll be looking at custom made headers.

Most stuff is available repro as well, but badges and brightwork are not, so make sure they're all good. You can buy full interior trim kits from the US, and much else besides. Dearborn Classics is a good site to see what's available for Galaxies, although there are other sources in the US as well, such as Dennis Carpenter. Anything mechanical that you can't easily source here can be found at RockAuto. Prices are excellent - it's the shipping that fucks you.

In short, if the body has rust, proceed with caution. If the frame has rust, walk away. Unless you're very good with a MIG! Anything can be fixed for a price...

Concepts and prototypes are where it's at. I'll never be able to afford one, so maybe build a replica one day.

Currently at a panel shop awaiting much surgery to fix some old bad bodywork. Then it'll be back with much lace, such candies and wow panels.

It's more hokey-pokey. Left leg in, right leg out, torso in and shake it all about.

I've been in this thread too long. Going to look at a 74 caprice hardtop this weekend to sit next to the 73.
