The quality of the builds already out excel similar make models. I can see this as a good thing.

First LOL - HSV and AMG in the same sentence.

Second LOL - They are already better cars than anything from Holden/Ford in the same class.

They could start by selling the Genesis here, the engine looks good on paper but is probably shit in the real world.

I20 vs Fiesta ... Fiesta Win!
I30 vs Focus ... Focus Win!

    Hyundai Sportivo, anyone?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Korea is taking a LOT longer than Japan ... Toyota was a barely-acceptable joke in 1975, yet 4AGE AE8x and 3SGE ST16x 10yrs later and then xJZGTE 5yrs after that.

Hyundai has been "coming" since 1995, and they're still 1975 Toyota.

I feel dirty saying this buy hyundais current crop of cars are really nice. V6 genesis thing looks the goods too when I seen them in the flesh (nopics best friend took me out with her when she wants do buy an ix35) but fuck me 100k price tag for a Hundi? That's 18763872x more stupid than 100k in a commodore.

Interesting to see what they build and how it compares pricewise.

I have driven a Genesis Coupe (the green LHD manual one Hyundai Aus own) at the Lakeside skidpan track and it was a genuinely impressive car. Similar feel to a 370Z. Would they sell here? Maybe. The car is definitely good enough, but the performance car buying public might not be open minded enough to accept it (unless the price is razor sharp).

I did also hear rumors of a proper Veloster turbo. That car does have a decent enough chassis underneath, but shitty steering and woeful gear / diff ratios ruined any chance of one of them ever feeling like a proper performance car. ~220kw, better steering and gearbox would make for an interesting proposition. Can't fix the looks though.

Accent and i30 products to rival Fiesta and Focus ST? Well, maybe in time...

compared to what was available locally? I dunno man.

I do agree that "the rest of Asia" has been much slower to get their shit together than Japan. I have heard that Hyundai is pretty good these days but I don;t think i'll drive one after driving an accent for 200 metres. I sat in an IX35 in a car yard and that put me off for a good while yet.

    I don't agree.

They use new, yet tried and tested power trains and have spent money on areas that numpty buyers care about. Where as Toyota hasn't come out with a new engine for 15 years and have given up on spending money on any other R&D due to the financial crisis.

I don't like driving Korean cars, (and I don't like the current Rolla either) but you must admit that the generic car buyer loves them both here and in the US. Oh, and Kia's styling is waay nicer than Toyotas efforts.

That's what happens when you buy your R&D from Japanese car makers who take 5 years to release on the market. Add another 5 years to 'perfect' that R&D and call it a tech inspired name, and viola... you're 10 years behind with your direct injected donk etc.

What... lol. The NR series was introduced in Japan in 2008 replacing the 15 year old NZ you're probably thinking of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_NR_engine

Instead of posting the current Auris (Aus Corolla) why not post the 2010 Vitz/Yaris that the 2011 Kia Rio was based on?

I am still looking through the Yaris specs for a direct injection 1.6L or a 6 speed auto.
