Yeah Monster P Industries (Thailand) had there's doing 413HP/873NM, or so Phil claims.

Harmonic balancer and the oil seal behind it have both shit the bed.. Oil seal has been weeping for some time now...

Will be $750 at the local non mitsi workshop. More than I spent on maintenance on the forester for 5 years

That small chunk is at the rear and forms part of the running surface the oil seal used to run on.
The workshop assure me the crank was not damaged at all. Despite the bolt being loose and that chunk missing.

I just can't get my head around all of the dumb shit problems this car has had.

I need to change the oil filter tomorrow before it does any driving just in case it's plugged the existing one

Fark x11ty, is that a keyway on the r/h side of the chunk?
Did you get any extra vibrations or any sort of warning? (other than the oil)

Yep last week i noticed it shake at idle and a bit noisier but no leak like that. As soon as off idle the shake went away..

So so glad the engine didn't let go, probably just luck..

Arb roof rack that bolts directly to roof and replaces rails. Battery tray, extra spare alloy wheel. Airbags and rear springs and common rail pre filter kit.

It will smoke like a demon every 300km and throw engine light and DPF light. Get the tune now and enjoy the power increase and no smoke.

Two weeks down and ~700km, No CEL's yet to speak of, running much smoother and happy to rev through to redline.
The only smoke it gives off visibly is at idle if you tap the throttle, Can't see anything under load.

Bonus is it's about 1.5L/100 better on gas which is awesome

I've now owned this for 14 months and put 40,000km.. Perhaps I should have just leased a new one and enjoyed a tax break ffs LOL

Been a while since the last update, not much has been done except drive it really... She's got 225,000 on the clock now.
Thankfully no more issues with the harmonic balancer!

For about 12 months now I've been wanting to swap the suction control valve because it's been surging under load and it is a pretty common failure part on the 4M41 engines. The first time I went to do it the top hex bolt ended up rounded in a retard moment by myself. So I just left it for another time.
Anyway yesterday I was feeling motivated so I stripped the engine bay back and made some room to get the big tools in there

No amount of modifying vice grips would get it to turn, Tried banging in a torx bit, still nothing.... So I grabbed the dremel and threw on a cutting wheel and very nervously went to work on the head!

That was enough to relieve the pressure on the flange of the SCV! Before removing I grabbed the vacuum and gave the area a real good clean up.

The SCV removed and stripped down.. You can see the scoring marks where it's been rubbing the housing. The housing is just as bad, but I can't polish that. Yes the SCV will need replacing anyway...

After a quick polish with some 2000 grit and penetrene it's come up pretty nice. I probably could have given it a bit longer though.

Gave it all a through clean with some contact cleaner, man some filthy stuff came out of the guts of it! looked like foreign stuff, not from the polishing.
I need to give it a good run but a few laps of the block and it doesn't feel like it's surging anymore. It'll get a good run tonight on the work commute though.
