It looks like this. But must have lost its vinyl roof when it was re sprayed, or never had one. LS stands for luxury sport, they should have kept the GTS bits, like the guards. Not a big fan of the twin headlight front either.
One in good condition with a factory 350 chev sold at Shannon's auction for $35,000, but couldn't find the date.

My 2 favourite HQ colours. Wonder if the LS came in red?(just looked closer, it's not an LS) Looks like it going by this. My uncle has a bright red HJ Statesman, he bought it new. Would love to have that car. He drives it twice a year to Melbourne from Geelong.

It continues, I pretty much gave up trying to buy the LS. But this morning I talked to his wife and she said that he has taken it to Shannon's to see what they would value it at if it went to auction. They said $45-$50k. They are probably right, seems crazy. Looks like he has finally thought about selling it. I spent about an hour at his house, and although no deal was done, I remain hopeful .. I can't offer the full amount that Shannon's suggested. But I am a nice guy and a good neighbour surely that's better than some extra cash.

Old two door rustbucket with venerated monaro bits stamped somewhere?

Armchair estimate watching this shit deteriorate for years, it it's rustbucket quotient is not close to total, I'd think $30k is about the cheapest all else being reasonable. Old two door metal has long been retarded, rusted sills or not.

I'm just hoping the ute prices don't go full retard before I get around to buying the extra carhole. Carsales fills me with disappoint, bumtree with hope.

This car is almost a one owner car being owned since 1974, and has never been unregistered. It is tidy enough, interior is still good. The only rust is on the inner sill in front of the rear wheels. And you can only see it if you look under the car. Paint is dull and needs to be redone. I think a sympathetic resto would be the way to go- paint, replace all suspension bushes, ball joints, etc and full service of the driveline. And some skinny GTS wheels. I would also like some A/C.

I'm surprised they've gone up significantly in the last 2 years?
Didn't everything old & even borderline-Australian skyrocket up to about 5 years ago, and have been basically parked at that value ever since?
    Apparently not?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

I agree, the prices have gone up a lot in 2 years. $40,500 for the 6 cyl LS Monaro at Shannon's that needs a full resto seems crazy. Seats are shagged, chrome is peeling, some rust, etc. sitting for years, so not drivable either. And that was last year. I remember when I first looked at the neighbors car thinking $15k could buy this. Now I have to double my offer.

HQ Coupe prices have gone up so dramatically the past couple of years because HK/HG/HT Coupes have become totally out of everyones reach now. People are paying $50k for burnt out and rusted out shells with no tags so they moved on to the next best thing - HQ. A good friend of mine paid $82k in December '17 for a fully restored LS > GTS Replica with a 350 Chev.

A mate has had his hq ls coupe with bb chev sitting in carport last decade or so..offered him 20k last time thinking he'd sell as it's quite rough but now seeing even rougher cars sell for a lot more.

One on gmh-torana site an owner paid 17k for a coupe that was pulled out of a swamp..like wtf!
an easy fix is get a mate to drive in front of you at 60 then 80 then 100 and mark in on your speedo with some liquid paper.

Maybe Holden should go back into business of remaking all the cool cars of the 70's. They just need to work around current ADR's.

Interesting comparing this with the LH Torana thread from Fatboy. Both neighbours, both rare old Holdens, different rather different OP outlooks.
Rust is lighter than carbon fibre.

Ok, itís a Ford not a Holden (90% of fans from the Ford vs Holden days lost already), and on top of that it was never designed here; but does all this recent value-increase in old locally-built 2dr stuff mean the rust-free 2dr Mk1 Escort rolling-shell clogging up my shed has actual value?

I would buy a 2 door MK1 escort. My brothers neighbour has one with genuine steel factory flares. He said he will never sell it, but my brother said he is thinking about it now. :/
Body is ok, but it was made into a kind of sports sedan many years ago, so missing a bit of the firewall.

I went back again today. Took a good look at the car, and although it's a little tired, it is in remarkable condition for an unrestored car that is over 45 years old. There is no rust anywhere except under the sills in the back corners. The interior only has a couple of splits in the seats, but overall pretty good and useable. He painted it 20 years ago himself but never put clear on it. So it's as dull as. I really don't like the colour, so thought I should take a pic of the tags to find out what it looks like if it had fresh paint in the original colour. The paint is Etruscan gold metallic. Found this car for sale with the same colour. Actually looks great.
The car is so original everywhere, down to the air cleaner, hubcaps and chrome dress rings. With a fresh coat of paint, some rechromed bumpers and polished trims it would look amazing.
    Kind of like this.

But, and a big but. He decided he can't sell it at the moment. He is still too attatched. I keep reminding him that it will be just around the corner, so he can always see it. He was telling me about trips he has done to Cairns, etc in the car and how reliable it has always been. He had a tear in his eye just thinking about selling it. I suppose if you have owned something for so long it has to be hard to let go.

I think Etruscan Gold is browner than that. It looks more like Contessa Gold to me.

Current issue of AMC, 100th issue, has an interesting article on how much the values have risen over the last 16 years. XR GT has increased 823%, XB GT Hardtop 1000%, HK GTS 327 1473%, Torana L34 1000%, XE Ghai ESP 5.8 500% while a VC Brock has only increased 441%.
Funnily enough, 20-25 years ago you could have picked any of them up for under $20k, or less.
