We CNC the face with a fine diamond tip just enough to cut through any corrosion.
Makes them look like brand new again.

I think chrome nuts are the go, otherwise there’s this big expanse of black

What was the old Nissan V8? That would be a better fit imho. But yeah, V8 rumble would suit this to a tee.

    Nissan Y40/Y44.

4.0L/4.4L, came both carburated and EFI. I think a late EFI Y44 with good efi would be a great fit. Or VK56.

So getting this bus ready for Classic Japan in Melbourne- Como Park Sunday December 3.

    Cleaned and polished

Under bonnet. That stuff behind the battery? I have no idea.
Looks like the battery or power steering exploded at some stage.

    Boot and interior

One of the problems I've had with this is the gunk from the tail pipe staining the chrome and surrounds.

So I went with a chromey 1 into 2 angle cut one, but to do so meant changing the muffler as the outlet on the old one was offset, and here's where it got interesting.

They had to change the muffler to achieve the tailpipes and so asked me what muffler? I said a quiet one as I hate loud automatics.

Which now gives it the tiniest bit of tone.
The interesting thing is it also gave it a noticeable jump in horsepower.
Looks like the old muffler, although relatively new, was strangling a few ponies to death on the way through.
Seems a lot happier going up hills and kicking down, and revs out better.
We'll see how that plays out on the juiceometer on the trip down to Melbourne.
Was getting around 440 Ks out of a tank last year.
Going down with Babs again and he drains a full tank every 2 hours with all those silly carburettors so we'll have plenty of chances to refill.
I might even be better able to keep up this time too

    Just got the aircon regassed.
Looks like the compressor is leaking a bit.
It was still working but only just.
Nice and icy for the trip down south now.

The verdict is in on the new muffler.
The previous best I ever got out of a tank of fuel was 440km/ 65 litre tank, 55 litres used.

This is what the old Cedric achieved this year with the new muffler in place, no other changes, 55 litres used.

It looks like the old muffler was indeed strangling a few ponies on the way through.
Not only that, it was dancing on their graves singing halleluia.

Quick calculation is it went from 12.5 L/Km to 10.15 L/Km which is not bad for a 1450kg car with 103kw/209nm from factory.
It would be interesting to dyno it and see what it is actually producing now with extractors, a little bit more free flowing exhaust, and electronic ignition in place.

Great to see you there at Classic Japan mate, the Datsun was looking awesome with those lush wheels! Good day considering the before and after rainy weather but hey, it was pretty nice compared to say wellington haha.

I even got badly sun burnt, go figure.

The fix on the tailpipe goo is longer tips. 70's dattos need that shin-destroying length exhaust tip to keep the exhaust from hanging up on the back of the car while driving. Also helps immensely if you have the "exhaust-in-the-cab" problem. Z's, 510's, 610's all do it, so I figure your Cedric may have the same issue. Wreaks havoc on the tail light lenses in the other cars, the left side is always darker than the right side after thirty-forty years of exhaust on it.

Yep, that is exactly the problem.
It's better since putting on the longer pipes but yes, thet'd have to be sticking out towbar style to eliminate it.

Something like this would fix your problem no worries. Maybe an external oil cooler as well just for good measure?

My last 260Z ran dual side exits just behind the rear wheels, which worked really well. Zero fumes in the cabin.
You could probably do something similar on the C.

Bit of photoshop, that picture would have a great Mad Max vibe.
