Haven't caught up but I think the new hidden waypoint stuff I posted above may of had something to do with the time losses by some, especially when you open the road.

Yeah, seems I put the kiss of death on him. Not an ideal stage. But there were some big gains and losses all round. As Stooge said seems the waypoint thing could be a game changer. Barreda Bort to lead out tomorrow. I guess we will see how he goes.

I think there maybe a reason Nasser keeps changing teams...

And here I was talking up a 3 minute lead for Price yesterday...

Oh well, like he says, you can't lead start to finish.

Not sure about that mullet though.

P.S. Need the thread title changed to include 2017.

Price is still in the hunt, early days. Nassers codriver was hanging out the cab for part of the stage after the crash..

Sad turn of events. Hopefully no complications from the broken femur. Hero to zero in an instant. Such a tough event.

Shattered for Price. Would have been awesome for back to back titles (seems he was headed that way this year).

Shame about Toby Hopefully he's back next year still on two wheels..

    his bike

    https://blackflag.jalopnik.com/dakar...ium=socialflow

Slovakian rider Ivan Jakes was struck by lightning in the Salar Centenario area on the third stage of the Dakar Rally, reports Motorsport.com. Of course it didnít stop him. Who stops for a pesky little nuisance like lightning on the Dakar?

Jakes, who rides a KTM for his own team in the rally, was 186 miles from the finish line when lightning struck him during a storm. He felt the hit, but kept riding despite pain in his left arm, ultimately finishing 15th on the stage.

Doctors credited the bike for saving Jakesí life to Motorsport.com. Much like what happens when lightning strikes a car, the KTM conducted electricity through the ground. Had Jakes stepped off the bike and grounded that electricity through him instead, he would have been injured much worse.

Jakes was later checked and cleared to return to competition in a Jujuy hospital. According to an update from the Dakar Rally, Jakes started off on Stage 4 this morning. Clearly, itís going to take a lot more than angry sky-blasts to stop this man from finishing Dakar.

Sounds like it was a bloody tough stage with a bunch of people dropping.

Pug got some work to do. Sketchy vid of the Sainz crash

Top 3 Honda riders have been docked an hour for an illegal fuel stop on stage 3. Pity Toby wasn't aware of this prior to stage 4...

Shame for Price. Although I guess at least it's 'only' a broken leg I guess.

Geez that crash of Sainz was pretty wild.

Is there a good chance that Price may not be ready for next year?

    St00ge, loving the updates mate!

Idiots POV of that Sainz roll over

Also a bit wet out there

Re that bike that was in flames in the above video, <insert standard joke re Chinese quality>

09:33 All over for Zongshen Thierry Bethys was the last representative of the Chinese constructor Zongshen, which is participating in its first Dakar. However, the brandís debut hopes went up in smoke, because the Frenchman, who completed his first five Dakars, could do nothing but drop out of the race after his machine caught fire and burned on the fourth stage.
edit sorry not the bike in the footage above, but carry on

Well, both my predictions are out in the same stage. I'm not going to predict Hirvonen, because I actually want him to win..

Good video of the Sainz crash:

Stooge, you have nailed with your call on the navigation change. Causing absolute chaos. Can't remember ever seeing such time made and lost in each stage.

Seems Loeb has found his way to the front in the cars. Comments that monsieur dakar is a little baffled by Loebs overall pace and ability to pull time. Seems to be a trait of the really good operators. When the pressure is on they seem to be able to go up a notch and pull time out of the field.

Solid effort by Sunderland on the KTM. Still a way to go though.

No surprises regarding Loeb's ability. He really is capable of anything, he is that damn good

Next stage cancelled, a large landslide in a nearby town. Race support are helping the locals.

Might be a while to get things sorted again, 18hr transits for some to the next bivouac, and half the field still not there. Not much love for the Russians from last week -
