    Lawn mower racer ideas

So we just had a lawn mower race in town and next year I want to enter something stupid.

Will also give me something to amuse myself with working on.

No real restrictions and happy to build something from scratch or modify a busted mower.

So after something that looks like a standard ride on mower but something that will fry tyres.

Im guessing a motorcycle motor is best candidate ?

Open to all ideas and suggestions....

    cheers

ok I have a John deere L100 17hp 42" cut.. thing and wasnt fast enough,so swapped the front to back drive pulley and now the cunt flies have had it at over 35+Kph on my phone gps across the backyard before shit got out of hand ... only cost abit grinding and welding... brakes are fucked though as transaxle if screaming now.. going to rape my bros GPx250 bike thing tomorrow and set up rear disks to be able to stop it reasonably whilst I mow the lawn weekly... I reckon it would do 50 or 60ks opened up.... fucking dangerous cunt of a thing wheels stands easy or frys tyres now.. what ever you need to do...... but thats how I roll mowing the lawn......

As kids me and a mate always talked about putting one of his old mans spare v6 Mercury outboard motors onto a ride on. Never figured out how to do the cooling or power train but would have been cool to complete.

    Also semi-intersted.

Have a Simplicity at the old man's that has a fucked cutting deck.

Would prefer to convert it to chain drive, as V-belts are gay.

Ditch rear transaxle, buy a complete ebay go kart rear axle, section the sides under the seat, to make axle sit alot higher up,front beam axle, unbolt, and weld onto top f mwer chasss, better yet, copy t, make t full legal width, fabricate arms with camber/caster adjstability.
Its nw lwered, wider, turns, and stops.
Motor,,, whatever,,,, as long as the bnnet f the orginal mwer fits ver t, e may need to cut bg hole in chassis to drop mower down into t.
Seen a few V twin m/cycle engines used.. Wheelstanders too.

I have a "gunna do t" one here,,,,
if you get this far after reading the above, good on you!
If i make spelling mistakes, syntax errors, or just mss letters in words, it is because i am lw vision/vision impaired.
Dont drive or race no more. Bit of a cunt of a thing.
I cant see what keys my fingers hit when i type.
Its called Cone and Rod Dystrophy, un fixable, i get worse, its a hereditary cunt f a thing.

Went to a vicmow test and tune a while ago, mate runs the mower with the Mario sticker. He went from a 200cc to 450cc, does wheelstand.

I'd suggest checking the regs for your local mob before anything, not much point building a mower if you can only race yourself. In vicmow at least it's pretty simple - classes based on engine size, up to 450cc, 2 or 4 stroke but 2 strokes may be classed higher by the committee. Even has a junior class for 110cc motors. Nobody uses the original mower engines as they're generally flathead pieces of shit with no gearbox. Bike engine and chain drive is the go. Guys generally hit about 75km/h on the straight.

No suspension of any type so make the seat comfy but probably not big enough to stop you being thrown clear of the scene of the crime in case of a rollover.

    Typical PF observation in bold

    Some valid points though.

The Showmow guys allow a sprung seat. One guy on one of the videos had a dubiously flexible front axle... From what I can gather from their ruleset and classes, is that only the "modified" class can piss the mower engines off for something of up to 250cc LAMS-spec.

I would suggest at this early stage you stick to only mildy-modified mowers.

Going with outlaw-style stuff straight off the bat, will limit the amount of people getting involved, as most may find the costs and engineering nouse required, a bit off-putting.

Surely taking a go kart chassis, putting a stupid motor on it and putting mower panels on it would be the best bed? pro mod mower

Except pretty much every ruleset I've found so far, states that an actual mower chassis must be used.

My bro got a free gpx250 zzrxpt ??? thing which had been dropped a few years ago and freaked the owner out and never tried to repair so it sat around for a couple years and advertised it on bookface for free......I brought it to mine yesterday to start tearing down for our new go cart mower project ..going to be a scratch build from shit laying around the yard... as safety is paramount so only the best junk will be used..need some ideas.... I might actually start a new thread...

Those v8 mowers are the go for my purposes.

its more for a giggle than proper racing.

That being said given I make the rules for this particular race I can still enter it and stir up the locals.

I think you need to talk with Honda..

    http://www.topgear.com/car-news/welc...mower%E2%80%A6

0-60 in 4 seconds, 130mph top speed should do it..

Dug the old thread up for an update. When with the easy option i.e covering the mower in a bit of camo netting. One of the local stations stepped up and did a 125cc bike motor into an old Rover ride on which went well.
