That's pretty fucking lame that you can't manually override it however if the main is completely fucked/flat it could try to dump a shit load of energy into it so maybe that's why? No different to jumping it though. Similarly you might want to use the main battery in an emergency so again might want to override.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was offered N70 Delkor calcium batteries for under $120 each the other day.

Have these things come down heaps or have I been shafted in the past?

    Came up ok

I accidentally fitted a bleed valve to the cruiser and upped the boost a little, then found it was starving a bit for fuel so gave the smoke screw a 1/8th of a turn... Fuck me dead it made a huuuuuge difference. Starts and idles a little better than normal, and mid range torque is ridiculous. I find myself just using an inch or so of throttle travel and she just whistles away and pulls like a train

Be careful doing that, you really should be using a AFR guage. You will probably get better results too adjusting the compensator rather than just coning the fuel screw in.

    youtube it...

If its the stock CT26, then 14psi max.

Easier and quicker to pull the aneroid out, look at it for where the 'max' fueling taper is and then install with that taper facing the front.
You'll have to chamfer the pin to get it back in easily, or fiddle with the front cover...

It sounds daunting, but is easy as pie... and if you return the fuel screw back to stock, you literally can't fuck anything up.

I've only made very small adjustments at this stage, but it's made quite a big difference to how it drives..

Small adjustments on the screw are quite big changes, what boost are you running now?

    since we are on gq's..

Would you buy a ZD30 in this day and age now that we know what makes them go pop and how to stop it? Is it a fair assumption that surviving ones now and 300k+ wouldve blown already if they were going to by now?

As the proud owner of a dead navara, i have a d22 computer, loom, ecu, turbo that im toying with swapping over for reliability..

And while we're on zd30's, can they make any more power without becoming more of a hand grenade?

    I'd buy a zd30 patrol no worries*

With the assumption that I'd be installing a duramax or similar down the road...

I've had two GU ZD30s in the last 5 years.

First was a 2003 manual, seems like it had some engine repairs done before I got it at 180,000 km. I put 8x,000 kms on that before I crashed it
Current one is a 2002 auto. I put a head on it when I bought it 19x,000 kms and it's up to 27x,000 kms now.

Apart from being fucking slow, both did everything I have asked of them.
Towing cars or the campervan up Mt Victoria is painful but overall livable.

People still get them blowing up occasionally but most of them are owned by younger people these days, so probably driven flat out everywhere (judging by the sort of fuel consumption figures I have seen!)
Post 2003 seem to be the best ones DI ones, CRDs don't blow up very often.

ECU remaps have become available recently, by all accounts improves things considerably but they are never going to be fast.
